Groove rock, jam rock, whatever you call today’s music hit, the message of freedom interlaced into some nice guitar riffs is perfect for a road trip, even if that road trip is to the post office! The band GILES is a guitar-driven trio from the North-West of England, but front man Mark Koehorst is originally from Holland, an unlikely lineage for a guitar style that channels Carlos Santana. Mark’s son, Piet, plays the bass and Terry Shaughnessy is on drums. Today’s track “Freedom” is a beautiful re-work of the Richie Havens classic performed at Woodstock and even includes some Gregorian chanting. This track comes from their fourth album, ‘Dancing With Dolores’ that not only showcases their amazing gift for riff, but includes backing vocals on several tracks by various members of the clearly talented Koehorst family.
