Music: “We’re Winning the War on Drugs” by Asylum Street Spankers

“Spanker Madness” by Asylum Street SpankersSaturday night I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the Asylum Street Spankers at the Aladdin Theater in my hometown of Portland, Oregon. I first heard of the band when I was surfing around on YouTube, looking for “War on Drugs”. When I saw the video for this tune, “We’re Winning the War on Drugs”, I fell in love with this band.

Wammo, the singer and writer of this song, says what I’ve always wondered, “If there’s a War on Drugs goin’ on, how come they’re all around?” He was gracious enough to give me five minutes of his time for the Stash (check today’s podcast) and a CD of their 2000 release, “Spanker Madness”, which is an album about nothing but marijuana, even down to the retro “Reefer Madness” cover art.

You can check out the music, find tour dates, get on a mailing list and more by visiting AsylumStreetSpankers.com
