Mexico gang had ‘James Bond’ car

BBC NEWS | Americas | Mexico gang had ‘James Bond’ car
Police in Mexico have come across a new weapon being used by the country’s drug cartels - a James Bond-style vehicle complete with gadgets designed to deter arrest.

The car was abandoned by the gang members after a shoot-out.

The police and army sent to fight Mexico’s drug cartels have seen most things - sophisticated rocket launchers, powerful assault rifles and gold-plated pistols.

But in the northern state of Tamaulipas even they were shocked to come across a Jeep Grande Cherokee kitted out with its own anti-police gadgets.

Inside was a smoke machine and a device to spray spikes onto the road behind - the purpose to make a getaway easier and stop the car from being followed.

Those in the Jeep threw a hand grenade before making their escape.

What’s funny about this story is as I read it, I couldn’t get the theme song from the old 1980’s video game Spy Hunter out of my head.

What’s not funny is that prohibition forces these renegades to dangerous situations on our roadways.  It’s not just the pursuing police car that can be driven off the road by a smoke screen and road spikes.  I don’t recall any beer trucks being outfitted in this manner.

One Response to “Mexico gang had ‘James Bond’ car”

  1. J Velasco Says:

I live in South Texas along the border and have relatives in Nuevo Laredo in the State of Tamaulipas.
The amount of money to be made because of Prohibition is what drives people in nations with weaker economies to resort to such ventures. The amount of money as well as the violence is astronomically higher than during Alcohol’s outlawing. Nuevo Laredo at times has resembled a war zone and thousands have died in the sister cities of Laredo & Nuevo Laredo. This drug war is a complete disaster. Drugs are a Public Health issue not a Criminal issue. We have helped create this Monster. Too much money to be made! The U.S. Government is in the business of telling it’s citizens what they can put in their own bodies. Are they my lungs to inhale pot smoke or will they ever be mine to do as I chose. If I fill my lungs with cancerous tobacco smoke I’m O.K. If I choose to donate a lung to someone I can. Yet I can’t inhale some harmless weed.
Prohibition is Tyranny against my Right to pursue Happiness protected by the constitution. Our nation is made weaker while Millions continue to pour across the Border into drug producing countries. At least we help the poor Nation’s economies in the process. That is the one bright side in ALL the DRUG WAR!!
