“My Velcroe” is one of many projects from the uber-creative Emily Blong. Yes, “Blong”, not “Bong”, though that’s not why we’ve chosen her music for today’s tune. I’m more likely to have chosen her because of my love of velcro.

Mr. Obama reveals the true intention is to stifle the development of any viable legal cannabis distribution industry. By sending threat letters to Rhode Island and Arizona, states that have created clear and unambiguous laws for medical cannabis providers to follow, it is obvious that Mr. Obama isn’t opposed to medical cannabis, per se, but terribly opposed to medical cannabusiness.

Actually what is happening is that about 28,000 people will become criminals on July 1 and the businesses that used to serve them in an open and regulated manner will now return to illegal clandestine operations that receive no control and return no benefit to the state.
That sounds more like the “Wild Wild West” to me than a system where people register with the state after consulting a doctor in order to purchase cannabis in a retail store.

Is there not a governor in any of the fifteen medical marijuana states who will show some leadership and challenge the federal government’s bullying? The feds don’t even acknowledge such a thing as “medical marijuana”! The US Dept. of Justice’s position is that anyone anywhere in the United States in possession of a single joint is committing a misdemeanor worth a year in prison and anyone growing a single plant is committing a felony worth five years in prison.

The top federal prosecutor in Rhode Island has warned Gov. Lincoln Chafee that the state’s plan to license medical marijuana dispensaries violates federal law.
U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha says in a letter delivered to Chafee on Friday that federal prosecutors have the right to investigate and prosecute those who grow and distribute marijuana, even if such activities are allowed by state law.

What you will lose are the jobs that were created by a dispensary industry. You’ll lose the potential sales taxes and payroll taxes and money staying in Montana instead of flowing to other states or Mexico. You’ll lose the ability to know where the medical marijuana is being grown and where it is being bought and sold and knowing there will be some level of security, identification checking, agricultural quality controls, and zoning regulations. You just made the underground market broader and deeper now that 9 out of 10 legal consumers will be returned to criminal status.
