This week we welcome Hank III, from Tennesssee and on his own record label “Do It Yer Fuck’n Self” and the King of HellBilly!

In an era of plastic, manufactured music, it is always refreshing when someone goes against the grain and does what they want to do. Hank Williams III is the best example of this in music today. For over twelve years now Shelton Hank Williams III has been fighting the music industry to be his own man. Cast by certain people in the shadow of his legendary grandfather, Williams has fought long and hard to create his own sound and style, and to preserve the true outlaw spirit of real country music. His ever-evolving three hour live shows pay respects to both his country roots, and the punk and metal influences that he has held true to since his teens. Much like his grandfather and his father before Him, Hank III is his own man. He doesn’t care what expectations people have in him, and he will do it the way that he does it so long as he is alive.

Hank III has been busy, to say the least, writing and recording FOUR albums at once—Ghost to a Ghost/Guttertown, a double LP of refracted country music, the literally unprecedented 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin and the sludgy Attention Deficit Domination—and they all landed on the shelf the very same day, Sept. 6. We don’t believe anyone has done such a thing before—or even thought of doing it, for that matter. It’s too damn crazy.

Packaged together, Ghost to a Ghost and Guttertown find Hank3 further mutating his trademark hellbilly sound, while the latter LP is heavily seasoned with Cajun accents. While the other 2 albums, Attention Deficit Domination and Cattle Callin explore the two extremes of metal. Hank3 plays practically everything on both.

According to Hank3, the most countrified songs from this batch are “Day by Day” and “Guttertown” while the crossover tune is “Troopers Hollar,” which brings together his country and metal sides.

So have your selves a “good ole time”, roll one up and take a trip with Hank III and Norml to Gutter Town!

Rockin’ Friday: Dirty Rig – “Suck It”

Dirty Rig was an American Rock N Roll band from Long Island, New York that played it a little Dirty. You know how when you have your bong and it has clean water in it, take a few hits and it turns a little brown and dirty? Well that’s Dirty Rig! Think clean Rock N Roll and when you ad a little bit of distortion and a scream, you make it a little dirty!

Dirty Rig is not a band these days as frontman and singer Kory Clarke now fronts the famous doom metal band, Trouble.

Dirty Rig was formed in 2003 with Chas, Steve, Crock and Ed. The EP was followed by a full-length album entitled Rock Did It in June 2006. After the release of the album, Dirty Rig toured the United Kingdom in September, later that year.

Rockin’ Friday: The Clintons – “Free Ride in a Cop Car”

The Clintons got there start about nine years ago at a frat party on the upper floor of the Story Mansion in Bozeman, Montana. Since then they’ve played almost 1000 shows which has allowed them to tour around the western half of the US and occasionally share the stage with some pretty cool and respectable bands like Dierks Bentley, Barenaked Ladies, Blackhawk, and the Kentucky Headhunters.

Black Tusk (Relapse Records) is a 3 piece Metal band from Savannah, Georgia, United States and formed in 2005. The Savannah scene has produced so many great bands you’d be excused for thinking that sludge is in the water there, but there’s no excuse for overlooking BLACK TUSK. The band’s sophomore release and first for Relapse Records rips into you with locomotive riffing and powerful percussion, creating a furious display that incorporates the fury of punk and the precision of thrash metal within a familiar Southern-fried landscape. If ‘Taste the Sin’ is wrong, you won’t want to be right!

Double Jack rocks Canada and the World!

Double Jack, from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada was formed in November of 2004 and have played over a hundred shows. They have won battle of the bands competitions and have been featured for a Cage Match showdown!

Double Jack is hard at work and hoping to have there new album out by the end of the summer. Double Jack’s sound can be described as a mix between grunge metal and riff rock, with a tendency to write strong ballads. With influences such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Black Label Society, noway this band can disappoint!

Singer / songwriter Peter Moon, drummer John Bartolotta and bassist Doug Kennedy from Nashville Tenn, are working hard to reach fans from every walk of life. Over the past year, they’ve built a reputation as a great live act at clubs, colleges and casinos; opened for Grammy-winning pop stars and outlaw-country legends; and forged a classic yet contemporary Rock & Roll sound that is winning over music audiences throughout the Southeast.

Rockin’ Friday: Sinister Grin – “Medicine”

Sinister Grin is a Alternative / Rock / Southern Rock band that formed in Memphis Tennessee in early 2001. The band is signed to Indie label Hamster Powered Radio.

Sinister Grin can best be described as – pure, raw and melodic, with a southern attitude. With influences such as Alice in Chains, Theory of a Deadman, and Sound Garden, you can figure that the guys were great students, because the songs reflect there roots very well.

Sinister Grin’s cd Medicine was recorded in a home studio built by Brandon Scott and mixed and mastered at Ardent Studios in Memphis. The band: Brandon Scott (guitar/vocals), Val Suarez (guitar/vocals), Billy Little (bass) and Richie Pierce ”Mayor of Frayser” (drums) can be seen touring the south and around the country!

Rockin’ Friday: TREE – “Not Afraid”

This week we welcome TREE, a Hardcore/Metal band from Boston Mass, that always played it loud, hard, and in your face with passion. Although TREE is not a band anymore, they paved enough of a path that it will be traveled for many years ahead.

Constant and relentless touring has seen TREE share the stage with acts such as Clutch, Sheer Terror, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Fear, Godsmack and Staind along with playing the Van’s Warped Tour. These shows, along with their annual US headline tour pushed the odometer of the band’s “tour van” past an astonishing 250,000 miles.

TREE is no stranger to the Cannabis Community as they have always been a main stage act at the Boston Freedom Fest!The song “Not Afraid” seems to be the perfect song to show our prohibitionist friends, that we are here, were not going anywhere, and were “Not Afraid”!

Rockin’ Friday: Greenleaf – “10,000 Years of Revolution”

Sometimes the best things arent made, they just happen. A simple mixture of good friends, drinking beer, burning some fatties and discusing the music that mattered to them and generally having a good old fashioned rock and roll time. That pretty much sums up Greenleaf and its birth into the Stoner Rock/Ambient Metal world. Making it happen with a grueling schedule of other projects, a 4 song EP was quickly recorded in 2000, followed by 2001′s full length “Revolution Rock,” and a slew of European tour dates.

Although Greenleaf is not a full time band and seldom plays shows, due to band members obligations to DOZER (another cool band), GREENLEAF has a reputation as an amazing live band with everyone giving it their all at absolutely every show. Greenleaf from Sweden, signed to Small Stone Records, can be described as KISS meets BLACK SABBATH meets ZZ TOP meets PINK FLOYD!

The song “10,000 Years of Revolution” is a great example of what can happen when friends don’t stop friends from smoking weed, drinking beer, and jamming. Enjoy some GREENLEAF!
