Barry Cooper is the man behind the videos “Never Get Busted Again”. He’s a former narcotics cop who switched sides after years of realizing that the drug war was a failure and that it was unnecessarily destroying people’s lives.
(I have my personal reservations about Cooper’s videos. Much of his insight is excellent, especially regarding drug dogs. But his advice to allow police to search your vehicle if you’ve got your stash “well hidden” is disastrous advice. I think his theory is “take the chance they don’t find it and you’ll be on your way” and that “every person who ever refused a search made me think they were guilty”. That may be true. However, if you let cops search, and they find something, you’re screwed – your attorney can’t get you out of it because you gave them permission. Refuse the search. Refusal is not probable cause to search. If they detain you, get dogs, ransack your vehicle, and then find your stash, you’re no more busted that you would be if you gave permission to search, and now your attorney can file a motion to suppress the evidence because you didn’t give permission and they didn’t have probable cause.)
Now he’s started a hidden camera / sting-type reality show called KopBusters that aims to uncover the illegal actions of police officers. Check it out:

This is greatness. pure and simple.
I agree with your advise on how to handle a search, but sadly I never did it that way. After my first search when I was 16, I got smart about it. Every car I had after that I had made a hidden spot. Some where fast and easy but never obvious and it would take a tool to get it back. I had gotten searched so many times after the fist time, it wasn’t even funny. Made me think I was marked. The biggest thing I found out is to treat them as anyone else and don’t act like you’re hiding anything and contain your “high“, that way if they for some reason want to search your car they do but never bring out the dogs. I’m not saying it would work every where with every cop. I have traveled through some states and city’s that I would never want to be pulled in. Cops every ten miles on the freeways. And if any suspicion they will rip your car apart. If you know it is going to be that kind of search that is when you would want to refuse. You know your screwed and you might as well have a leg to stand on in court.
THIS IS GREAT! AND ITS EVEN AN EX-COP
