As Tam is off this month to get ready for the Marijuana Music Awards, we continue to play the best of vintage stash this ROctober. No “best of” list would be complete with out the Asylum Street Spankers and their anthem “We’re Winning the War on Drugs”. I didn’t quite believe them when I first heard this song. Now I am a believer.
Saturday night I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the Asylum Street Spankers at the Aladdin Theater in my hometown of Portland, Oregon. I first heard of the band when I was surfing around on YouTube, looking for “War on Drugs”. When I saw the video for this tune, “We’re Winning the War on Drugs”, I fell in love with this band.
Wammo, the singer and writer of this song, says what I’ve always wondered, “If there’s a War on Drugs goin’ on, how come they’re all around?” He was gracious enough to give me five minutes of his time for the Stash (check today’s podcast) and a CD of their 2000 release, “Spanker Madness”, which is an album about nothing but marijuana, even down to the retro “Reefer Madness” cover art.
