Boycott Kellogg’s protest gaining notice in mainstream media

Friday, February 6th, 2009 at 9:47 pm | By: Radical Russ

Just Say No! NORML is calling on all cannabis consumers to join Boycott Kellogg’s!  Click the link for the products and brands to watch for and learn how and why this all got started.  C’mon, fellow stoners, you’ve got at least one Kellogg’s product in the house right now.  Take a picture of yourself destroying it and send it to stash@norml.org and I will add it to the gallery.

Los Angeles Times:

Someone needs to spank Kellogg’s on its sugar-frosted hiney. And If I bought Kellogg’s products I would join the call to boycott them. How does a company devoted to setting little kids on the path to Type 2 diabetes get all sanctimonious about Michael Phelps and a bong hit? His behavior is inconsistent with its image, the company says. Huh? How can that be? Tony the Tiger is generally the first pusher of addictive substances in a child’s life. That’s the American way.

Take Frosted Flakes. The company recommends a 3/4-cup serving, but come on that’s like eating a handful of sugary air. A real bowl is about two to three times that amount. That means kids can start the day with up to 36 grams of sugar, or about 9 teaspoons per bowl. Multiply that morning after morning.

Then there are Crack-its, or rather, Cheez-its. I don’t care what the serving portion is, can anyone stop at anything under half a box? Anyway, the larger point is this: He’s a 23-year-old young man who got caught doing what 23-year-old young men do. Phelps has apologized. He can still be president. And most of his other sponsors, like Speedo, seem to be sticking with him.

Lee Stranahan at Huffington Post even has drafted a petition!

Whereas…

1) Kellogg’s is a major manufacturer of cereal and junk food products including but not limited to Frosted Flakes, Pop Tarts, Cheez-Its, Froot Loops, Keebler’s Cookies, Rice Krispies, Eggo Frozen Waffles, Famous Amos Cookies and many other products known to be a part of the diet of many marijuana using Americans

2) The Kellogg’s has profited for decades on the food tastes of marijuana using Americans with the munchies. In fact, we believe that most people over the age of twelve would not eat Kellogg’s products were they not wicked high.

The founder of Kellogg s, W.R. Kellogg, was against SEX, some stories I read, report he never had sex in his life. If young boys or girls were caught masturbating, he would circumcise the boys without anesthesia, and used, acid to burn the girls clitoris, as punishment.

My pre-munchies grocery trip was decided by brand name this time- no Kelloggs for me! Love those famous Amos and Cheez-its, but this is one less customer Kelloggs will have for a while. Total hypocracy!

  3. SAINT RICO says:

YES!! Support Subway is a great stoner idea to go with BOYCOTT Kelloggs. A lil’ bird once hit a doobie w/me & told me he knew a lot of stoners that made great Sandwich Artists….I, mean, who better to make a killer sandwich than a Pothead??

  4. mark says:

I am on board. There are plenty of things that can cure the sweet tooth that are NOT made by Tony the sweets pusher. I don’t know any thing that replaces smokes.

  5. potleg says:

I do not eat subway at all, too much bread, but I can and will boycott Kelloggs. We need to follow thru on this to show that we stand together on legalizing hemp

  6. kids says:

The problem with the Kellogg’s boycott is that people who didn’t previously buy their products have no way to participate (other than to send messages to the company). On the other hand, if we also decide to support Subway, everyone can participate and we’ll show our economic clout. Let’s make Support Subway as prominent as Boycott Kellogg’s!

I plan on burning a Ted Nugent record in my picture along w/K-logg’s.

  9. 420kmk420 says:

we all need to boycott kelloggs then maybe ppl will see how much us tokers an stoners affect the economy to the fullest stay stoned an peace an love 2 all

  10. Jocelyn says:

Uh, guys…. So, I guess it’s not your fault for getting it wrong or anything, but Kelloggs ALWAYS lets their original contracts with Olympic athletes run out. As in, they never renew them. As in, they’re not not renewing Phelps’ because of the pot. They even said that in their press release, which was misquoted. So really this whole boycott thing is stupid.

And Smores Pop Tarts are delicious. The end.

    • Sorry, Jocelyn. From the Kellogg’s statement: “We originally built the relationship with Michael, as well as the other Olympic athletes, to support our association with the U.S. Olympic team,” a company spokeswoman says in a statement. “Michael’s most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg. His contract expires at the end of February and we have made a decision not to extend his contract.”

That even made me laugh sober.

  12. Jillian says:

    Great campaign, Russ!!

We’ve got the numbers to make this a really big deal! People have forgotten about the power of protest. The power of getting together as a group and speaking with one voice.

BOYCOTT KELLOGG’S must be everywhere. We want to polarize the nation, so this is not just an issue of a subsection of society but an issue that people of all walks of life feel compelled to take a stand on.

I am proud to be a part of this!
