I am the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" for my work producing Oregon NORML's TV show, "A Cannabis Community Forum", and for helping to institute Portland's wildly successful medical marijuana cardholders meetings, where we help sick and disabled Oregonians acquire cannabis plant starts, learn gardening, and understand the medical marijuana law. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to be our daily voice.

Yeah, I love this notion. Unfortunately our brains also have “nicotinic receptors” and “opioid receptors” so ….
Well, it could be a question of whether most B-roll footage shot is of people who will agree to have their face on national TV smoking weed. It’s not real likely those people are going to include professionals in suits. Still, there are plenty of white stoners to film, aren’t there (there are, considering that black and Latino folks make up 25% of the population, but only 20% of the tokers – white folks smoke weed in greater numbers than their proportion to society.) I’m real careful with the race card, and I don’t think playing it here is relevant. There needn’t be any overt racism on CNN’s part when they’re covering a prohibition that is decidedly racist in origin and application anyway.
My dream CNN B-roll would be shot at a private party in Aspen, in a luxurious home of a prominent attorney with professional catering, with attorneys, doctors, scientists, professors, and activists in jackets and nice blouses, clean shaven and well groomed, all sharing marijuana casually and responsibly in a scene that would look exactly the same if it were a high-class Washington cocktail party. That’s the “stoner” culture I see that most of America never sees. But those people can’t sign off on a CNN release to show them smoking weed, no matter how classy they look, because it would kill their careers.
That’s the irony of marijuana law reform: the people you most need to be visible activists are the ones with the most to lose if they do, and the people with nothing to lose who are the most visible are often the ones you don’t need.
Just a thought: If the gods (God, science, evolution …as you understand it/him/her) gave our brains these wonderful cannabinoid receptors, does it make sense that they are there for a reason. They should not be wasted, but, instead they should be used.
Perhaps it is still (one of) the key(s) to our further evolution. (Thanks Bill Hicks)…
…or maybe I am
Anyone else notice they show only black people smoking? I think they are racist bigots.
Why does everyone act like higher potency equals more dangerous/harmful? It’s the dirt weed that you have to smoke a blunt of to get high, good weed (10-30% range) can take as little as one hit and you’re good to go! Obviously easier on your lungs. And then they say ‘experienced’ marijuana smokers will smoke less, but apparently first time or ‘inexperienced’ users would smoke an entire blunt, whether it be dirt or dro? Doubt that, in reality inexperienced users would smoke less of more potent weed ’cause their tolerance would be lower. So, it’s the total opposite.
It’s hilarious how for years they’ve tried to brand marijuana smokers as dolts or morons. Again, it’s obviously the opposite.
Well it wasnt harmful but I dont think that they really debunked the claim.
Dr. Sanjay was really wanting to say its not harmful but just wouldnt, he did say that the effects are only short term, but wouldnt say any more than that. He should have told the truth about potency, he knows dam well that its just the plants bring grown properly and with care, that makes them potent or not and in turn we dont have to take so much and that is better for lungs!
Im at a loss why Walters is showing up all over heading this fight, is he getting paid to keep the war going? or Keeping the money to all the departments flowing? I swear at this point its become a fight for their jobs and thats all. They are running these same old lies over and over because they are scared and they know the public is seeing through their BS. I truly believe they just want things to stay the same, to keep the prisons, courts and police working to keep their budget of tax money comming and keep a finger on the public!
Police are suppose to help the public and be their to keep us safe, instaed they are at war with us, searching us, tapping our phones, and killing our animals. They destroy families and take homes, cars adn money away for americans! This is protecting and serving? I think not!
On a second note, Im so sick of this crap, today I heard they busted a bunch of folks north of me, early this week and already its causing shortage issues 100 miles south. I cant stand it, I cant function or even get out of bed, I need my medicine. I swear Im going to move if this keeps up, you all are so lucky in Cali and others that have medical laws, here in Kentucky they could care less if your ill or dying! I may need aplace to stay til these laws change!
Anyhow I believe we are causing panic in the anti-drug folks, they are scared, they see changes comming, even the thought of treatment to them is not good, they want us in prison not treatment, they wont get money for their prisons! Keep it up is all we can do, keep the letters and calls going to legislators and the president, dont let them think this issue will fade away, we need this to be an issue in the next elections and in 2012 big time!
The beef I have with Sanjay is that CNN presents him as a Marijuana expert who has devoted some study to the plant and its effects.
The reality is that he is just reading the ONDCP and NIDA misinformation handed to him by the shows producers.
At least he wasn’t as emphatical as others who do the same thing.
The Prohibitionism fear mongers are so concerned about 10 to 30% THC……What about the legal marijuana pill ( approved by the FDA) -Maronal—which is 100%THC….Fear, fear, fear…that’s all the know….
My comment on the first report: The lady reporter said more and more people are showing up to the
Hospital ER these days because of pot…. What exactly are these people showing up for? Chronic munchies?
