A recent court case in San Diego has revealed some California police officers are basing their sworn court testimony in medical marijuana cases on badly outdated, legally inaccurate information. The cops’ own “medical marijuana training materials” tell them that — contrary to the law — there’s no such thing as medical marijuana, and that all marijuana is illegal!
Officers are basing their expert testimony, as far as “medical marijuana training,” on a handout from something called the Narcotic Educational Foundation of America, “Drug Abuse Education Provider of the California Narcotic Officers’ Association.” http://www.cnoa.org/NEFA.htm
This misinformation has real-life consequences. Californians who legally use and provide medical marijuana are faced with hostile police and judges who have only heard or choose to believe information which is plainly wrong regarding medicinal pot’s legal status here, and inaccurate regarding its effectiveness as medicine, as supported by thousands of doctors and hundreds of studies.
I guess it’s not really a surprise to hear that cops are trained to believe that marijuana has no medicinal value and that all use is illegal. However it is still a little surprising to see that they produce a pamphlet dedicated to this message.
And if the “pro-drug legalization lobby” (us) is so “well-financed and organized” then when do we get our cut?

They will *never* hunt us all down because we aren’t a static group of people, every single day there are 6,000 more of us.

How about they use some money (and labor) from CA’s huge industrial prison complex to print up some modern MMJ pamphlets?
Education and up-to-date training are critical elements in the development of humane law-enforcement relations with patients.
Conversely, we could use our own* money to send all the CA police academies and stations updated information re state laws on the matter.
California was the first, but not necessarily the best, when it comes to enforcing these policies. Some standardization with regard to patients’ rights needs to be spearheaded at the national level. Thank you Barney Frank!
This sounds like a good job for “mandatory minimum” Joe Biden. This clown is at the heart of our drug czar’s recent ridiculous comments on marijuana. “Marijuana is dangerous, and has no medical benefit.” If that’s not our idiot veep pulling Kerlikowske’s strings, I’ll eat my stems.
