Following testimony from what seemed to be every California law enforcement organization in opposition to the bill, Assemblymember Tom Ammiano’s AB 390, the bill to tax and regulate marijuana in California, has been moved by the Public Safety Committee in a 4-3 vote.
The bill now moves on to the Public Health committee for what is sure to be more reefer madness testimony from law enforcement. I don’t know how they’ll improve on the litany of “stoned drivers will run amok”, “we’ll lose an entire generation of our youth”, “It’s Not Your Father’s Woodstock Weed™”, and “My God, What About The Children?!?”, but I’m sure they’ll try.
I’ll have clips from the hearing plus all the reefer madness debunking that they deserve on today’s NORML SHOW LIVE.

I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.

Shoot, I thought it was a referendum, like I thought it was going to be on the november ballot.
this is the best news ive heard today besides the bill passing in nj ….but great all around i have more options on places to move tooo
This truly is cannabis history being made. However, it is only one step of many yet to come on the road to legalization.
they are running out of vomit though. they can’t keep this up much longer…
I wish these things were run like a debate, They puke their BS then they look like an idiot when the facts are presented.
They are allowed to just Puke and puke with little responsibility for their statements.
From Assembly Public Safety to Assembly Public Health to full Assembly to Senate committee to Senate committee II to full Senate to joint committee to work out Assembly/Senate differences to floors of both Assembly and Senate for confirmation to Governor’s desk for signature and THEN it will be law.
So don’t get too excited. However, this does mark the first time a US governmental body has voted yes on legalization, so that’s something.
One more hurdle cleared. I hope to have legal weed in California soon. We were the test pilot for Medical Marijuana and paved the way for other states to follow. I am sure we will do the same with taxing and regulating it too.
And after “the Public Health committee”. If they vote yes, is it legal, or does it have to go to the senate?

This is such great news! Can’t wait to re-watch the entire thing… It had me glued.
