The point of a law is to protect the people from injustices and percecution. When the laws themselves become the injustces and ties for percecution, then it's time for the people to change those laws.

Michael Phelps was just percecuted for a picture of him smoking from a bong. Being one of the greatest olympians in the world. Is this not the guy that we should back, that proves marijuana doesn't lead to death and destruction as publisized by Harry Anslinger and the Government during the Reefer Madness days.

I smiled from ear to ear when i heard Mr. Olympian smoked pot.

peace

Thank you!

This was a well written post. Great quotes about MLK from his speeches. I really appreciate your honest approach to this situation and terrible condition of prohibition against Marijuana and cocaine and heroine, mushrooms and other natural drugs that people choose to use for whatever reason. The war on drugs is hyppocritical to say the least. It's justifying racism, classism, kkkapitalism and promotes lies on a grand scale.

For me the only good thing that GWB did was pardon John Forte (albeit at the last minute). If only Obama would take the cue and pardon Mumia (who also fought to legalize marijuana) and other non-violent offenders (those who are locked up for drug offenses). Otherwise his presidency is a change in hue NOTHING else.
best,

"The prohibition of drugs [is a] tool... of oppression."

That is a great line and a seminal statement about the true nature of the War on Drugs.

****
of course: "It's against the law to be marijuana" is right up there too!

Excellent post, Russ

The right to cannabis would be in the Bill Of Rights. But our fore fathers could not foresee a time when nature would be illegal. Many of them after all grew hemp themselves

"I dream of a day when workers are judged not by the metabolites in their urine but the quality of their work."

Wow. The whole essay is just so inspiring for me to do more.
I lost my job and had to find a new one the only place that called me back is a part time job making 7.00$ an hour and they required a drug test even though the type of work I would be doing would not put anybody in harm, no driving, no kids, its just getting ridiculous. Lately I have been hearing commercials on the radio advertising at home drug tests.I know that people say that well I should just not smoke then so I can get a job but I feel it is not right that I should be judged by my urine and not by my excellent job references. I could just keep going on and on because it is a definite sore point with me but I won't and all I have left to say is Right on!

Russ,
That quote is a true inspiration. Thank you very much for bringing it to my attention. I will be sure to include it in my rebuttals to my representatives this evening.

Again, thank you and have a wonderful MLK Day.

Only one day left of Bush's tyranny!! FTMFW!!!
