Welcome to hump day/hemp day on the stash! We have many warriors in our Cannabis Army and today we meet JERRY CHIAPPETTA JR. who tells it like it is in “The Reefer Song”. Jerry is a real renaissance man and his music transports me back to a time when feel-good music was king and an easy-going love song with a little guitar was the only soundtrack you needed. Jerry calls Naples, Florida home and that laid-back beach attitude is reflected in his music. A gifted songwiter, Jerry reminds me of Jimmy Buffet or Sammy Johns with a message I can believe in. A line in his lyrics, “here is a solution to our Country’s debt, we need to wrap it up and tax it so it’s easier to get” should end with a “Hallelujah!” You can hear more of Jerry Chiappetta’s music on his myspace page, and you can download his music on Itunes.
I love the interesting, and today on the stash, KUSH ARORA brings us some experimental Ragga music with today’s stash hit, “Weed Control”. When the US and Europe were falling in love with the synthesizer and carving out electronic dance music, our friends in Jamaica were giving birth to Ragga music, the electronic child of Reggae. Kush Arora blends Indian music, reggae and his own quirky version of dancehall to create a lush new sound in Dancehall Dub. Kush grew up as a drummer and electronic music lover and is active in the underground San Francisco artists scene. Visit his myspace page to experience more of Kush Arora. We Need to control our own Weed!
Some smooth blues to ease your Monday, Stashers. EDDY CLEARWATER is here to fill all our Blue Monday needs. Today’s track “Help Yourself” has one simple message, you don’t need no doctors, you can help yourself! Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater is Chicago blues style at it’s best. He has toured Europe with Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. He is a fierce guitar player, and after 60 years of playing to crowds around the world, this blues man is still gigging - often in full Indian headdress, an homage to his Cherokee heritage. Check out his web page at eddyclearwater.com for more information on the Chief.
It’s another super-duper fabulous Weekend Music Stash. Finally, after missing a couple due to trips to Helena and Aspen, I’ve got ten new Stash songs to put together for your pot party pleasure.
We made it to Friday, Stashers, time for a celebration! A special treat on the stash today, the astonishing JET BAKER brings us a smoker-approved tune called, “Pot Party” from one of his albums of the same name . You are officially invited to this Pot Party, Stashers! This Texan can often be found in Chicago, California or at a NORML event near you. He has performed at the Cannabis Cup and all over the USA. Jet is the King of the Amsterdam Coffee House scene and the most prolific weed musician in the world. (He has almost a hundred cannabis-inspired songs on Itunes). You can enter the strange and wonderful world of Jet Baker by visiting his website, www.jetrap.com, or get acquainted with his own brand of twisted comedy on his myspace page. By the way, Jet Baker is currently putting together his “Stoner Love Songs World Tour” and you can apply for one of the many positions on his myspace page. He is even putting a call out for joint rollers. (I want to see that resume!) If you have a talent you could lend, I am talking to YOU right now…life is too short! Jump on board and have the time of your life!!
Good day my smoky friends! We get some kick-ass rock and roll today on the stash with SKRACHT APPLE. It’s time for a Revolution and the boys from Skracht Apple provide us the soundtrack with “Songs of the Revolution”. We have seen the collateral damage of the drug war; families needlessly torn apart. Today’s song is about a young mother who is victim to this unnecessary war. Skracht Apple is Clay Sigletary on guitar, Ducky Medlock singing his heart out, Chris Boon pounding the bass and Lee on Drums. It is time to stand together and demand our government change unfair cannabis laws. Skracht Apple rocks out of North Carolina. Visit thier myspace page and discover more of their amazing music!
Layin’ a cool groove for our midweek stash, GREEN TEAM is here with today’s musical hit, “2 Gram Blunt” featuring, Populus. The G.T. is playin for the home team in Fresno, California and these boys have been rhymin’ together four years. GreenTeam members are Knowledge, Flick-E, Nate-D, and Treechoppa, the man who rolls the Two-gram Blunt. It must be a party when the Green Team hits the door. Check out their myspace page for more music downloads, some cool poster downloads, and more info on these West Coast rappers. TreeChoppa gets an invite to all my future parties!
A bit of underground hip hop to brighten your Tuesday, Stashers! MOLEMEN is the trio of Hip Hop producers from Chicago, Illinois who have collaborated with Chicago rappers as well as rappers on both coasts. The trio consists of Memo and PNS along with PANIK who brings us today’s track, “Puff Another Blunt”. This haunting hip hop beat comes from Volume 13 of the Molemen Instrumentals - a series of instrumentals with cutting edge music and soul-searching idioms. This is just one of the 35 tracks on this album - all suitable for a trip-hop afternoon of smoke and contemplation.
Welcome to Blue Monday! A tribute within a tribute, today’s musical hit comes from the blues legend that suggested Ellis McDaniels use the name “Bo Diddley” in a song they were making up on the spot during a recording session. As I channel Paul Harvey….and now you know the rest of the story….. It doesn’t get much bluer than the Chicago Blues, and today on the stash we have Chicago blues legend Billy Boy Arnold with the hit, “New Jail House Blues”. I don’t think that you get to enjoy a podcast if you are behind bars, but if any Stasher has been able to enjoy the NORML Daily Audio Stash while incarcerated, let us know by leaving a comment. Unfortunately, far too many cannabis consumers have had a stint as a POW. Billy Boy Arnold began playing harmonica as a child in Chicago and in 1948 received informal lessons from his near neighbor, John Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson, shortly before his death. In 1952 a small record company gave Arnold the nickname “Billy Boy” on his recording debut. “New Jail House Blues” is a track from a long-overdue album, recorded in 1992 but released just last month. Billy Boy Arnold comes full circle with a wonderful tribute to his mentor, the Original Sonny Boy, John Lee Williamson.
The Wednesday Stash gets global as we head to Ireland for today’s cannabis inspired tune. The band, STOAT brings traditional Irish music to the table, reminiscent of good-time pub sing-a-longs but toasts our favorite relaxant instead. This three piece band of Dubliners are destined for world wide fans with this new classic, “I Wish I Was Stoned”. Visit their web page at stoatmusic.com to listen to their music, then add Stoat to your favorite Irish bands alongside Van Morrison, U2 and Thin Lizzy!
Good day, Stashers! Cannabis Karri has the day off today, so I’m digging into the musical vault to bring you another slammin’ track from my Oregon homie, The Dirtball, representing Bend and all of Central Oregon… you betta recognize!
The Dirtball’s new album is out from our boys at Suburban Noize Records, and it’s called “Crook County”, which is the actual name of the county where Bend, Oregon is located. The Dirtball mixes into his beats all kinds of interesting sounds. Check out the country-style in this track, which is called “Just a Friend”. It’s about that standard line you hear from the girl you really want to be with, but she just likes you as a friend.
Today on Blues Monday I am serving up a song that many can relate to as cannabis consumers with the track “Misunderstood” by the mighty force that is Carolyn Wonderland. She has a voice like an ocean and she is a guitar goddess on her trusty guitar, “Patty”. For the record, she also plays trumpet, keyboards, accordion and mandolin. I am pretty sure she invented sliced bread. You may have seen Carolyn’s video of her song, “Annie’s Scarlet Letter” about a young mother imprisoned by the drug war. (If you haven’t seen it, watch it here) Her poignant message has no doubt touched many. Carolyn is a freedom fighter, a talented songwriter and a national treasure. You can learn more about the fabulous Ms. Wonderland on her website, carolynwonderland.com.
UPDATE:I just heard that rhythm and blues legend Bo Diddley just passed on this Blues Monday. Thanks for all the great music Bo. You will be missed, and remembered and copied and revered and immortalized and adored for your contributions to music.
UPDATE TOO: “Radical” Russ here - Here’s that video of “Annie’s Scarlet Letter”.
Sorry, Stashers, I realized that I don’t have much new music for the Weekend Music Stash since I was off the air this week while in Montana. We’ll load up an extra full bowl of budly tunes next weekend. — “R”R
Welcome back to the stash! I also welcome back our favorite BC buds, THE TALL BROTHERS. Today we enjoy another one of thier wonderful reefer jazz tunes, “Jive Cake Stuffin’ to take us into the weekend. The brothers , Thomas and Bill Small, are the core of this legendary Vancouver, BC band. Bill helped launch the British Columbia Compassion Club Society that provides low-cost, high quality organic medicinal marijuana to anyone with a doctor’s prescription. Tom started writing music at the age of 8, plays all kinds of instruments and has worked as an audio engineer. Both brothers have a long musical resume in different musical genres. Taking their inspiration from 30’s and 40’s reefer jazz tunes from greats like Cab Calloway, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole, the Tall Brothers have a classic jazz sound with a contemporary twist. According to their website, the band’s name comes from an old reefer jazz tune called “Man with the Jive” where a line exclaims “Light up baby and get real tall!” Let’s all get real tall this weekend! Please visit their myspace page to sample and download this uber-cool music, or visit 420tunes.ca to purchase their amazing CD. Go ahead and buy two or three copies, it will be the coolest gift you give someone this year.
Welcome back from a long weekend, Stashers! Today on the stash, I bring back a favorite artist and a favorite song with SLY JOE and his infectious hit, “High”. This toker-tune speaks of the season upon us, that will bring us even more barbecues, weekend hikes, great friends and good weather. If you weren’t able to get out of town this last weekend, take this musical jaunt to sunny places like Southern California, New Mexico, and Hawaii with this upbeat tune that will have you tappin’ your foot and smiling your way through this shortened work week. We always have a good time when Sly Joe stops by the Stash, so get out your ukelele and your kazoo and sing along with “High”. You can visit Joe’s myspace page to check concert dates and get some updates on his band, THE SMOOTH OPERATORS.
Well, here I am, late again. But you’ll cut me a break, right? It is Memorial Day Weekend, plus I’m flying to Helena, Montana, for a week of extra work in my alter-ego, Corporate Trainer Man! Here are the last ten more songs of eclectic material played on our Daily Audio Stash by, about, and for the cannabis community. Support these independent musicians, click the links, visit their sites, buy their tunes. Music is one of our most important weapons for bringing truth to the masses. Enjoy!
A very happy Friday stashers! We have an update and another great toker-friendly tune from THE OMEGA PROJECT. Carlos, Frank and Patience return, bringing their A-game with today’s tune, “Leaf”. A classic jam, funk, reggae, rhythm, festival band - the boys live up to the hype with another big song featuring Carlos and his rich voice, Frank and his tight rhythms and Patience slammin’ on the bass. You might remember that we interviewed Carlos Cardona on his birthday in April and he had quite a tale to tell about an unfortunate encounter with the law. We are happy to report that our hero will not be spending any time behind bars! He was levied a hefty fine and will be spending considerable time doing some community service, so zip over to the Omega Project’s website, and leave him some love and good wishes in their guestbook. You can also hear and purchase some of their incredible music on their website at Omegaprojectmusic.com. Ain’t no one should be punished for lovin’ some Leaf!
Stressed out? In need of a lift? Today’s stash is a cure for what ails you in the form of “Herbal Remedy” by YAMASAKI. It is smooth jazz, dripping with funk. Yamasaki is the name used by writer, producer and solo artist, Tom Edwards. He is the new sound, the emerging Jazz that is gliding over the path laid by greats such as Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder. Infusing influences like Fat Boy Slim, Yamasaki takes his place as a force in the modern jazz movement. Herbal Remedy is just what the doctor ordered! Please visit his myspace page to hear more of his remarkable music or you can visit our friends at podshow.com for more information.
Happy Hemp day/ Hump day on the stash! I am serving up some Rock and Roll to ease your mid week strain. THE HOT ROCKS bring us today’s musical track, “Higher”, a southern rock and roll gem with heart-felt lyrics and an infectious beat. This is good ol’ rock and I would expect nothing less from a group that has Rocks! in their band name and is led by frontman, Eric Rocks. Rounding out this Tennessean four piece is, The Chad, on guitar, Topher on bass and Jason “Steve the Pirate” Hess on drums. (There has got to be a good story in that nick name!) The band members found each other in Nashville, the heart of American Music. Let the Hot Rocks take you Higher today! Visit their web page, thehotrocks.com to learn more and download their brand of southern fried rock.
Today on the stash I am sending some love your way. MACHINE LOVE is the name of the San Francisco duo who bring their brand of space rock to the stash with today’s song, “Stoner Girl”. This smooth, groovy electric track has no lyrics, but its inspiration is made clear in the title. Machine Love consists of Vincent James on Drums, Keyboards and Electronics along with Jim Hedges on Electric and Acoustic Guitars. It’s this mix of computer-created sounds alongside the live guitar music that gives Machine Love their sound. A love song for the new age, a synthesized bouquet of digital flowers for the stoner girl in your life.
