Welcome back from a long weekend, Stashers! Today on the stash, I bring back a favorite artist and a favorite song with SLY JOE and his infectious hit, “High”. This toker-tune speaks of the season upon us, that will bring us even more barbecues, weekend hikes, great friends and good weather. If you weren’t able to get out of town this last weekend, take this musical jaunt to sunny places like Southern California, New Mexico, and Hawaii with this upbeat tune that will have you tappin’ your foot and smiling your way through this shortened work week. We always have a good time when Sly Joe stops by the Stash, so get out your ukelele and your kazoo and sing along with “High”. You can visit Joe’s myspace page to check concert dates and get some updates on his band, THE SMOOTH OPERATORS.
Well, here I am, late again. But you’ll cut me a break, right? It is Memorial Day Weekend, plus I’m flying to Helena, Montana, for a week of extra work in my alter-ego, Corporate Trainer Man! Here are the last ten more songs of eclectic material played on our Daily Audio Stash by, about, and for the cannabis community. A very happy Friday stashers! We have an update and another great toker-friendly tune from THE OMEGA PROJECT. Carlos, Frank and Patience return, bringing their A-game with today’s tune, “Leaf”. A classic jam, funk, reggae, rhythm, festival band - the boys live up to the hype with another big song featuring Carlos and his rich voice, Frank and his tight rhythms and Patience slammin’ on the bass. You might remember that we interviewed Carlos Cardona on his birthday in April and he had quite a tale to tell about an unfortunate encounter with the law. We are happy to report that our hero will not be spending any time behind bars! He was levied a hefty fine and will be spending considerable time doing some community service, so zip over to the Omega Project’s website, and leave him some love and good wishes in their guestbook. You can also hear and purchase some of their incredible music on their website at Omegaprojectmusic.com. Ain’t no one should be punished for lovin’ some Leaf!
Stressed out? In need of a lift? Today’s stash is a cure for what ails you in the form of “Herbal Remedy” by YAMASAKI. It is smooth jazz, dripping with funk. Yamasaki is the name used by writer, producer and solo artist, Tom Edwards. He is the new sound, the emerging Jazz that is gliding over the path laid by greats such as Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder. Infusing influences like Fat Boy Slim, Yamasaki takes his place as a force in the modern jazz movement. Herbal Remedy is just what the doctor ordered! Please visit his myspace page to hear more of his remarkable music or you can visit our friends at podshow.com for more information.
Happy Hemp day/ Hump day on the stash! I am serving up some Rock and Roll to ease your mid week strain. THE HOT ROCKS bring us today’s musical track, “Higher”, a southern rock and roll gem with heart-felt lyrics and an infectious beat. This is good ol’ rock and I would expect nothing less from a group that has Rocks! in their band name and is led by frontman, Eric Rocks. Rounding out this Tennessean four piece is, The Chad, on guitar, Topher on bass and Jason “Steve the Pirate” Hess on drums. (There has got to be a good story in that nick name!) The band members found each other in Nashville, the heart of American Music. Let the Hot Rocks take you Higher today! Visit their web page, thehotrocks.com to learn more and download their brand of southern fried rock.
Today on the stash I am sending some love your way. MACHINE LOVE is the name of the San Francisco duo who bring their brand of space rock to the stash with today’s song, “Stoner Girl”. This smooth, groovy electric track has no lyrics, but its inspiration is made clear in the title. Machine Love consists of Vincent James on Drums, Keyboards and Electronics along with Jim Hedges on Electric and Acoustic Guitars. It’s this mix of computer-created sounds alongside the live guitar music that gives Machine Love their sound. A love song for the new age, a synthesized bouquet of digital flowers for the stoner girl in your life.
Welcome to Blue Monday, Stashers! Today we get a great blues track from JULIAN FAUTH with his musical hit, “Roll on In” from his well received second album, Ramblin’ Son. Julian Fauth has taken his contemporary blues sound to breathe life into old blues music. He was introduced to blues at six years old when his radio announcer father brought home some old discarded albums. Those old LP’s with greats like Muddy Waters and Lighting Hopkins, introduced Julian to what has become a lifetime of blues music. Julian’s mad piano skills have seen him opening for Buddy Guy and BB King and touring around the world, including Cuba, Europe and the United States. This Toronto blues man is destined to leave his own blues legacy just like the greats that have come before him.
Sorry I’m late - it’s a crazy weekend and I just barely have time to post this before heading downtown for a Barack Obama rally here in Portland. After wreaking havoc on the road rocking sold out crowds across the country, Oregon based rapper The Dirtball is bringing it home with the release of his third solo album, Crook County. While in the past his accelerated rhyming skills have kicked his career into overdrive, now with his latest release it’s his songwriting skills that have him cruising in the fast lane.
Inspired by the beauty of his home state and his love of creating music, Crook County’s diverse mixture of rock and hip-hop is eclectic enough to leave fans of all genres salivating for more. Powered by the machinegun attack of his motor-mouth and irresistible hooks, the album can dazzle fans of Southern Rap (Ying Yang Twins, Lil Jon), battle mainstream heavyweights (Twista, Lupe Fiasco), or stands toe-to-toe with underground legends (Tech 9ne, Kottonmouth Kings, or Insane Clown Posse).
The Dirtball raps hard in this cut, “Mushroom Cloud”. Take a listen and recognize that reefer rap is alive and well over here in Oregon. Represent!
The definition of the word, IRIE is total peace with your current state of being. It is the way you feel when you have no worries. Today’s musical hit, “Dizzy (Herb Smoker)” from MIKEY DREAD sings about the mystical state of mind when one is dizzy. We know what that means. Michael Campbell will always be known as Mikey Dread to his legions of fans around the world. He was one of the most influential performers and innovators in reggae music. His abilities, technical expertise, and unique vocal delivery created a unique sound that lets you know it’s “Dread at the Controls”. (the name of his radio show) Mikey was a technical wizard and held degrees in engineering and electronics. He started his career as an engineer for the Jamacian Broadcasting Corporation in 1976 and that led to him hosting the most popular Jamaican radio program of all time and the first to play only reggae music. He has played alongside reggae greats Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Inner Circle, and Third World. He has shared the stage with Bob Dylan, UB40 and Carlos Santana. He produced music for and toured with The Clash, and he has won more awards than I could list here. Mikey was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October of 2007 and died on March 15th earlier this year. It is not too late to get to know this amazing artist through the legacy of music he has left here for us to enjoy. If you visit his web page at mikeydread.com you will hear his famous voice, thick with Jamaican accent, welcoming you to his page and inviting you to look around. If you haven’t already, I would take him up on that invitation. Thanks Mikey for making us feel so Irie for all these years!
Welcome to hump day/hemp day on your daily stash. Today we have the AMPHIBEUS TUNGS with their feel good track, “Smoke that Feelen”. Maybe it’s because the Amphibeus Tungs are from Hawaii, but this hip hop track is as relaxing as Indica on a white sand beach. Or maybe it’s because this group has two Jays (two Jays are always better than one!). Founded by Beau Sun, Quest Eons and Doc. Platypus and welcoming turntabalists Pazess One and Jai Freedom Lewis with DJ Jay Peace Pipe and One Chef Strum, these guys groove just as much as they rhyme. I love the vibe that the Tungs lay down on this track, it is the perfect song to groove us through the week. This is one you will want to add to your basement party mix tape! Mahalo and Aloha!
We invite a true ganja man to today’s stash with ROCKER-T and his toker-inspired tune, “Tru Ganjaman”. Rocker-T grew up in Brooklyn, NY and has lived in San Fransico and Amsterdam and currently calls Oakland, CA home-base. Rocker-T’s music is reggae and dancehall mixed up into a hot rasta blend. He has played in some of the greatest venues around including Amsterdam’s Cannabis Cup, S.F.’s Golden Gate Park, The Fillmore, L.A. House of Blues, the Wetlands in NYC (oh how we miss this legendary club), Reggae on the River, and he is a regular fixture at yearly rainbow family gatherings. Today’s track is a fan favorite and even has an audio cameo in a scene from the stoner-classic film, Next Friday. This track is from his album, “If yu luv luv, show ya luv”. Find out more about Rocker-T, his philosophy and his music at rocker-t.com.
Hey Stashers, “Radical” Russ here. Welcome to Monday, May 12, 2008, or as I like to call it, my youngest brother’s 25th birthday! Yes, that cute chubby baby on the left is all grown up now, and as his oldest brother, it is my job to publicly embarrass, er, I mean, support my brother in all his endeavors.
Josh is incredibly talented, and that’s not just a proud big bro talking. He’s soon to graduate Boise State University as a theater arts major. He’s a gifted actor, director, and playwright in addition to being a talented singer/songwriter and guitarist. To the best of my knowledge, Josh isn’t a cannabis consumer, but as I was checking out his music on MySpace, I told him that someday he needed to write me a song about weed so I could promote him on the Stash.
Two days later Josh knocked out a demo on his four-track recorder. It’s this cute little disco-ish tune called “Get Stoned Together”, and he plays the guitar, bass, and cheesy keyboards as well as programming the drum machine and singing all the vocals. It helps fill the gap left by the lack of marijuana love songs - there are lots of songs about loving weed, but few about loving someone by sharing weed.
Enjoy the demo. Josh is moving here to Portland in the summer, and we’ll be collaborating on this song and others (I play bass, my cousin plays drums, and his mom has a great recording studio). We’ll let you know when the finished product is ready!

Happy Friday, Stashers! I was so proud to be standing next to some of my fellow cannabis warriors in the Global Marijuana March last weekend. In the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon, we got to enjoy music from today’s artist, CHIEF GREENBUD. He entertained the crowd with his music and personality. A talented country and folk artist, he is the whole package, a one man guitar band with a message and a mission. Today’s track, “The Legalization Song” is a poignant anthem with a simple question, “What do we do about legalization?” A comedian at heart, Chief Greenbud calls Nashville, Tennessee home but travels freely between festivals, events, biker rallies and fairs leaving behind smiles and friends. We owe a lot to the comedians who push acceptance of cannabis culture into mainstream society using laughter as their weapon of choice. Hail to the Chief! You can visit Chief Greenbud’s myspace page to hear more of his music and buy his CD (it’s sooo good). Add the Chief as a friend, he is a friendly guy and he LOVES to have new friends.
Welcome to Thursday, Stashers! Today on the Stash your delicious afternoon snack comes from RANDOM ORBITS, a jam band from Ellensburg, Washington. Not your crazy uncle’s jam band, these guys thrash like punkers, play smooth grooves like jazzmeisters and lay down vocals like rock and roll superstars. With Steven Cole on guitar, Ryab Daley on bass and Blake West on drums this lean trio relies on talent to fill out thier sound. Today’s hit, “Blow Back” has all the highs and lows of a junior high school goth girl. Dubbed “Punk Floyd” by RO’s loyal fans, these young lads are breaking out with the emerging sound of a post-Phish jam band universe. If you happen to be in Seattle this weekend, Random Orbits is playing an all-ages show on the 11th at Studio Seven. Let them know you heard them on the stash! You can visit their myspace page for more details.
If you love Joni Mitchell or Tori Amos, you will love today’s musical hit from “MUDVILLE”. The track “Stoned” is a beautiful, haunting song with a dream-like quality that will soothe you through the middle of the week. Vocalist and songwriter Marilyn Carino and producer and bassist Benny Cha Cha from New York, have been creating music for the past 12 years. This song grooves me to my soul! You will enjoy “Stoned” like only a cannabis community member can. Learn more about Marilyn and Benny and hear more of their amazing music at their website, mudvillemusic.com or visit our friends athttp://music.podshow.com.
Welcome stashers! THE UNDERCOVER HIPPY brings us a danky hit with his song, “Too Stoned”. Starting out as a DJ at 16, this UK artist spent years as the MC for the “Guerrilla Collective”, a drum and bass collective based in Singapore. In 2002 he sold his turntables and bought a guitar. It seems to have been a great career move as he now plays music all over the world. This great toker tune comes from his first album, “They feed on Greed” and it is an instant cannabis classic. You can visit his website, undercoverhippy.com to learn more about this wonderful and quirky artist, hear more of his music and purchase his album.
Welcome to the Blue Monday music stash! A real blues man, MARK LEMHOUSE sings the blues on, “You Can’t Get that Stuff No More”. In our black/grey market of cannabis, this is a familiar song to many. I have sang the lament many times over the years. Lemhouse, an American Roots and Folk Blues artist has received national recognition as both an outstanding songwriter and performer. His songwriting style is showcased in the impressive guitar work and easy-going lyrical quality. Mark calls Salem, Oregon home. We can hope for a brighter tomorrow, post-prohibition world where you can get that stuff some more! Visit Mark’s website, he is very funny and you can hear more of his music.
Here you go Stashers, your world-famous Weekend Music Stash for your Global Marijuana March weekend! This one is extra-long, since we missed some of the songs when we produced the 4/20 Music Stash, so enjoy!
