(Denver Post) A bill making it easier to convict people of driving high on marijuana was among the more than two dozen bills sacrificed in the Colorado House Tuesday night during a gridlocked debate over civil unions.
Earlier in the day, the controversial bill surmounted its final legislative committee, when the state House Appropriations Committee approved it 9-4.
The proposal would have made it illegal to drive with more than a certain amount of THC — the psychoactive chemical in marijuana — in your system. The limit of 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood that the bill proposed would have been similar to the .08 blood-alcohol standard for drunk driving.
Wow. A bill proposed and passed by ignorant people who are intolerant of marijuana consumers was left to die because ignorant people who are intolerant of homosexuality had to kill a bill to recognize even a second-class marriage right for gay people.
I guess reactionary Colorado legislators are more afraid of gays than stoners. (Shhh… don’t tell them there are plenty of gay stoners!)

Contact your elected representatives and urge them to 'Stop Arresting Marijuana Smokers'.

I totally agree. Im glad there is at least one strong presidential candidate this time around that gets it.
And when I say at least one. I mean, only one. Liberty is a wonderful treasure to protect, for everyone!
But seriously, Imo Cannabis DUID standards arent going away, get ready to strap-up big for a fight on this next year….Especially if we see Colorado or some other state finally get a legalization bill through(please god).
Y?…………..Dabs.
….weird….I thought this was a Cannabis Law reform website……
Alright, I’ll play devil’s advocate.
If we simply must have gay marriage today, what’s next? Why not polygamy? (It was good enough for Mitt’s ancestors!) Why not have multiple wives and multiple husbands? Could a whole town of, say, 5,000, get married to itself? Could I marry a stalk of broccoli? Fido and I are very close. etc.
Seriously, a lot of us have known people who have been in polyamorous relationships (trios). Should a threesome be able to get married?
(BTW, I am in favor of marriage-as-a-civil-contract so my answer to the last question is “yes.”)
Well, maybe not. “…though SB 117, which would have set a THC DUI limit of 5 nanograms per milliliter of blood, was presumed dead this morning, there are rumors now of it surfacing in some way as part of the special session called by Governor John Hickenlooper earlier today.” Westworld
People in favor of equal rights for pot smokers, but not gay people? What an oddly irreconcilable inconsistent illogical position.
Personally, I’m in favor of reclaiming marriage back to its Biblical definition, but my wife has vetoed the whole “one man, many wives and more concubines” definition of marriage.
Great news! Seems like gay activists have done a lot knowingly for the cannabis movement, here is one more example of how gays have help, even if they didn’t really know it at that time.
3 snaps up!
Hi Russ–
Just as it is possible for there to be gay stoners, it is also possible for there to be people who are in favor of cannabis liberalization but opposed to gay marriage/civil unions.
These are both logical possibilities. It’s probably the case, empirically, that there are proportionately more gay stoners than people who are for sensible marijuana laws and traditional marriage laws.
