BBSNews – Czech Republic Legalizes Medical Marijuana Cultivation
BBSNews 2008-03-17 — (IACM) According to a report by Radio Praha of 4 March the high court ruled that the cultivation of cannabis for medical purposes is not a criminal offence. The court had to decide on the case of a woman, who had been convicted by a lower court but referred to the fact that she intended to use the cultivated plants for the alleviation of skin and stomach problems and not for the production of psychoactive effects. Cannabis is increasingly used for medicinal purposes in the Czech Republic.The mere discovery of the plants was not sufficient for conviction. Rather, it would have been necessary to prove the intention to make marijuana from the plants. Cultivation of hemp for the production of skin ointments would however constitute only a small public hazard and it would not be reasonable to criminalize it, the judgment stated. The case has now to by retried by a lower court.
Interesting decision – “Your Honor, it was not my intention to get high off these buds. I intend to use them for my nausea and skin rash. Oh, sure, they got me high as a kite, but that wasn’t my intention.” Good for the Czech Republic! But it’s strange to see more liberty there than in America.

That’s great to hear! Yes, I’ve never been to Bohemia/Czech Republic, but have relatives who once lived in Prague and said it was gorgeous and wonderful. Sorry about my ethnocentrism; you’re right, much of the world is more free than America in many ways.
But it’s strange to see more liberty there than in America.??????????? WTF …. are you blind????? American freedom is an empty phrase…You have obviously never been here (Bohemia-Czech Republic). People have been growing and publicly smoking for ages here. I am glad that its now “legal”, but for most people it doesn’t really mean any changes. Those who wanted to smoke, or grow, did and will coninue to do so. I never asked my government if I may smoke weed or plant seeds. There is also something else that was not mentioned in the original text… Its not only weed you can grow, but also peyote, cacti, or mushroms.
