Imagine a Discovery Channel show about tellers in a bank. The no-big-deal nature of marijuana dispensaries made a show about it no big deal.
From Steven DeAngelo, full release here:
We want to take this opportunity to inform everyone of the Discovery Channel decision regarding the future of our groundbreaking television program, “Weed Wars.”
All the accomplishments of “Weed Wars” won’t be fully realized for another generation, as all the people who saw the program move through the world and activate themselves with the cannabis plant. We are certain that 10 and 20 years from now people will stop us on the street and mention how “Weed Wars” changed their lives.
Nothing would please us more than to be able to continue with future episodes of “Weed Wars.” Unfortunately the Discovery Channel has made a much different decision and will no longer continue with future episodes. We do not know why, nor do we understand why, they made that decision.
That’s unfortunate. Despite my disagreements with Steven on “All use is wellness” and “I don’t support legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes”, I feel that “Weed Wars” did far more good than harm in promoting the image of marijuana consumers. For many watching it in non-medical marijuana states, it was their first look inside a dispensary. The mundane nature of the business showed America and the world that there is nothing to fear from professionally run cannabis distribution. Unfortunately, that mundane nature also made for some pretty mundane television – battles over tax law enforcement aren’t exactly compelling drama.

Contact your elected representatives and urge them to 'Stop Arresting Marijuana Smokers'.
Im not sure how to feel about this.
Yes it gives a non cannabis person an insight into our world, we are not criminals and are not evil people but truly how many non cannabis “people” watched that show, it would be like me watching a show surrounding alcohol, I wouldnt.
Then there is the side where what was said on the show didnt really help any legalization and some stuff that just wasnt right about cannabis reform. These opinions of just a very small segment of our community being on a show that mainly cannabis consumers watched wasnt a message I would want out to the masses of cannabis “people”, but thats me.
