As a versatile musician, producer and seasoned DJ, Derek Dunbar establishes himself as an authority on quality. With his musical upbringing, Derek’s spectrum of sound ranges from hip-hop and soulful downtempo, to his distinct underground house grooves and everything in-between.
Music is nothing new to Derek; in fact, you could say it’s in his blood. His father wrote songs for bands and artists like Freda Payne, Chairman of the Board and Parliament Funkadelic. At an early age, Derek would watch as his father compose on the piano which, at 4 years old, made him want to take lessons. After just a few lessons, his teacher was so impressed with his raw talent that she noted, “All he needs is a book and some practice… he’ll do just fine on his own.”
Derek’s “When House Was House” EP is a well balanced musical journey through his selectively simple style. “Breakin’ Down” brings the old school funk with its sampled guitar riffs and live drum kit. This is the kind of groove that’s perfect for enjoying a nice sativa and the company of a very special friend… can ya dig it?
