DJ Smoke aka Jason Morgan is a true musical powerhouse. He’s been in several bands with such diverse genres as hardcore rock, electronic / downtempo, and hip-hop as the drummer, guitarist, and/or vocalist. This includes late 1990s to early 2000s Salt Late City hip-hop punk band Vell-kro. Over his years of experience as a musician he has played in many venues throughout the US and has shared the stage with many well-known entertainers.
Jason is currently pursuing solo work in varying eclectic styles as he takes a hiatus from bands. A multi-talented instrumentalist, he plays keyboards, guitar, bass, saxophone, and drums; all live and computer-generated aspects of his music is done by him in his home studio based in Bountiful, Utah. He also produces demo albums as well as writes and produces for Break-Thru Crew.
The bhangra influence is clear in this track, reminiscent of some of the offerings from British Asian label Outcaste. “Smoked Out in the Middle East” is low-fi and tribal, with hints of new age. Its haunting nature lends well to definite sensual danceability.
