Maybe there is a strong silent resilence in numbers! So maybe we were like the "big elephant" in the room. Everyone knows about it, but don't wanna talk about it

i brought this issue up in my government class today. hahah.(we were talking about the Dem. Convention.)
my teacher didn't know what to say.
you could tell that he had some opinions on the Drug Wars and Marijuana Laws but he was afraid that the younger kids wouldn't quite understand.

The only candidate that would have even talked about the issue is Ron Paul. I hesitate to say anything, because I know I'll get flamed.

He openly and freely talks about marijuana and drug policy. Either the system is fixed, or folks really did buy into the two party system again. Democrats like to portray themselves as liberal freedom loving candidates, but when they make Congress, they fall in line with the elder prohibitionists.

Take the response I got from Jim Cooper (D) from TN. I wrote to him asking him to support Hinchley this year. What he wrote to me was, "While I believe in ensuring that patients suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness are not deprived of the best and most effective treatments available to them, I am also a strong believer in the enforcement of our nation's anti-drug laws. Unfortunately, the current state of the law does not permit government-sanctioned research on medical marijuana, and until Congress can agree to change these laws, I don't believe that this research can be supported."

First, I didn't ask for research, I asked for him to vote for the amendment. Also, even after reading his response, I'm not sure I understand where he is on the issue. Finally, whatever.

I know I'm a long way from Oregon, California, and D.C., but there are all kinds of folks like me pulling for you guys out west. Keep up the good work, but be careful who you put your faith in. I don't think Obama will do a thing if he's elected. Not as far as the mj issue is concerned anyways.
