Smokey Bandits
This week, an instrumental surprise: Did you know that Irie music can come from Greece? Yah, or rather, Yassou, mon…
Smokey Bandits is a 14-member collective from the Grecian isles headed by Dimitris “Quasamodo” Nassios and George Fotiadis (aka Basement Freaks), who bonded over the music of jazz artist Chet Baker and the films of Guy Richie, Danny Boyle, Pedro Almodovar, and Quentin Tarantino. The group makes music of its own genre, covering groove, Balkan, hiphop, reggae roots, Latin, ska, and jazz. Today’s track, “Smoke in the Attic,” is a horn- and beat-driven cut that incorporates reggae, ska, and European wonderfulness that evokes images of a lazy late night with a spliff and a good flick. Trust me, you’ll dig it — it will make you feel Irie.
