On Thursday, January 22, CNBC will be presenting a program called Marijuana Inc., which goes into depth about the big business of marijuana. But besides the illegal uses of marijuana, there are many medical uses. For example, the Journal of Neuroscience reported that the active ingredient in marijuana can be used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers found that cannabinoids can help prevent mental deterioration through the reductions of Alzheimer’s related inflammation.
Even members of the government are starting to change their tune on the drug. Bob Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia, who had historically opposed medical marijuana use, has done a complete turnaround and now supports the adult use of medical marijuana. He is now a lobbyist for the Marijuana Policy Project.
So are there any public companies that can benefit from the marijuana sector? There seems to be a grass roots effort to get this budding industry growing, or maybe it is just a pipe dream.

Who benefits? I believe now is a great time to invest in stocke and why not in the ones that revolve around a recession-strong product like Marijuana. Well, in an indoor garden, you need electricity to power the operation (modern gardening dictates recycling water) so the local power supplier would make HUGE revenues first, you may consider California’s major publicly traded utility companies. Then there’s the nutrients that are added to the water. These are made by many Canadian companies but some domestic as well. There are so many out there so you would want to find out from your local gardening supply store which products sell best. Then there is equipment, typically not a recurring expense, yet many times invites a high price tag…another pick. There is also the cheap equipment that typically burns out and needs to be replaced….bulbs, fans, pumps, a/c units, and other things. Then disposables like bags, baggies, ropes, vynyl gloves, (please don’t touch my herb with rubbergloves)… Then there’s the cheap stuff that lasts forever…like Rubermaid products, but the funny thing is, you keep buying more…. So that’s it…investigate these areas more and you should have some really solid stock picks…. Happy Gardening and Happy Investing!
