Jack Herer (June 18, 1939 - April 15, 2010)
I have just received word via Paul Stanford that the beloved “Emperor of Hemp”, Jack Herer, passed away today at 11:07am Pacific Time in Eugene, Oregon. I do not have any more details at this time, but this follows Jack’s fight to recover from his severe heart attack, suffered backstage at last year’s Portland Hempstalk (which I also had to report live on NORML SHOW LIVE).
I wish Jack could have lived to see at least one state re-legalize cannabis. We will continue to fight for his dream.

I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.
Jack made it happen and than poof gone in a flash. Thanks to Jack we will have our bread the green meat of the land.We will miss him.

“And can it be that in a world so full and busy the loss of one creature makes a void so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of eternity can fill it up!”– Charles Dickens (1812-1870)
Jack, you will be greatly missed.
Oh my, we have lost a Father of the movement, we have only one goal now, to legalize in the memory of Jack. We can not fail him, he fought with his last breath for us and we owe him everything for it. God bless Jack, I’m sure heaven is a better place now that he is there, wonder if he was able to bring his own strain up for God to smoke, if Jack had it his way, I would think Gos is pretty High right now. All Hail Jack!
See ya on the other side Jack..you will be missed.
Thanks, and goodbye, Jack.
Few people have had such an impact on the world of marijuana/hemp reform, and Jack will be missed.
Even fewer people have had such an impact on me, personally. His teachings and viewpoints helped to greatly expand my understanding of the issues, especially regarding the vast utility of industrial hemp.
I am saddened by our loss, and will always remember and cherish the inspiration Jack brought to me.
God bless, Jack. We will miss you!
