I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.

“Call us stupid (and we know you will), but when medical marijuana dispensaries started to blossom like a bud in the Humboldt sun, violence related to pot increased — and it seems to us the cartels are plenty busy sending serious weight across the border.”

As you already said, it’s prohibition that causes the violence, but I love the way they word this. Cause and effect are implied, but it’s never stated outright here – they just lead us on. I could state “ever since I started selling diamonds out of my garage, robberies in my neighborhood have increased”. I’d be telling the truth, perhaps, but my statement is purposely misleading the reader to believe that diamonds are a cause of crime, when in fact it’s their *value* and human greed behind the criminal activity.

Take away the value, and you take away the crime associated with marijuana. Will prop 19 make pot valueless? Not immediately, of course, but over time, the value will definitely drop.
