I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.

The Illinois Senate has passed SB 1381–barely. It is now up for vote in the Illinois House–eventually. Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Pilot Program: therefore IL should show as a turquoise lined state. Please continue to write your legislators!

Minnesota passed a Medical Marijuana bill in the House of Representatives and State Senate last year but Governor Tim Pawlenty vetoed it.

Hopefully with him not running for Governor this November are next Governor will sign it!

I imagine a map like this that has interactive states that you can click on with the different district representatives pictures and names and addresses and positions on mj law reform. If I knew how to put something like that together, I probably would. You could have state maps for state lawmakers and the big US map for the feds.

    Interesting and enlightening map, thanks!

Another statistic which is significant is the number of states which, while they don’t currently allow legal access to medical cannabis, do have legislation recognizing the therapeutic value of the product.

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin recognized the medical value of cannabis as far back as 1978 (NM, LA, Fl, IL).

Most of these states still have laws on their books, but they have remained dormant and ineffective, primarily due to the use of the work “prescribe” in their legislation, which conflicts with federal laws banning prescription of Schedule I substances.

Legislation dates and tallies are available here:

Most of us understand the ridiculous nature of cannabis prohibition, but to realize there are 23 states who actually admit it is genuine medicine, yet continue to deny it to the sick and dying, goes beyond ridiculous and is simply obscene.
