I am the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" for my work producing Oregon NORML's TV show, "A Cannabis Community Forum", and for helping to institute Portland's wildly successful medical marijuana cardholders meetings, where we help sick and disabled Oregonians acquire cannabis plant starts, learn gardening, and understand the medical marijuana law. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to be our daily voice.

I have heart disease and have had since I was 35.2 heart attacks, heart failure, diabetic…. the list goes on.My point being,I smoke daily (a half to a whole joint) I asked my cardiologist point blank about smoking pot and his exact words(reluctant in saying)”Marijuana is not and has not been proven to cause or lead to heart disease” The cigarettes,Booze and “stimulating” “party favors” do and will cause cardiovascular problems. Also,I spoke to several Dr’s and all said the same.In my case it relaxes me at the end of the day unlike the legal prescription medications that had me falling asleep daily and leaving me depressed and fatigued.Granted these recent “studies” are based on a minimum of 10 joints a day! Not a surprise that could cause problems.

Marijuana is illegal and will always remain illegal for one important reason. Drug lords stand to lose billions of dollars off of black market sales, and are more than willing to buy senators to keep the market cornered on all illicit drugs.

This goes back to the start of the war on drugs in the 70s (no way! nixon wasn’t corrupt! /sarcasm) and perhaps all the way back to 1937, as after the end of the alcohol prohibition (i believe it was ’33) “speak easys” could no longer charge upwards of 400% on inferior alcohol because it was legal.

This is also in my opinion why only smaller dealers(competition) seem to be incarcerated without remorse, while the kingpins remain untouched.

So next time you hear a politician say its okay for aids and cancer patients to suffer for a “noble cause”, or contradicting valid evidence that Pot is harmless, keep in mind hes probably being pummeled with drug money to say so.

*I do not support the use of any addictive or harmful drug, including alcohol. Marijuana, however, fits into neither of these categories. I do, however, believe that this is the land of the free, and prohibition of ANYTHING other than violence goes against the very idea of our great nation.

This is totally bunk. I have heart disease and have had two heart surgeries. The only reason I stopped smoking is because my job now does random drug screenings otherwise even my doctor told me it is okay for heart patients. The main reason it is good for heart disease patients is because it lowers blood pressure. Cigarettes and alcohol are more dangerous for people with heart disease than marijuana which they are legal. It is also which I was informed by my cardiologist the same as medications to keep me living (isodil and lopressor) which open my arteries and lower my blood pressure.

I wish our government would stop lying and allow us to live in peace. The only problem marijuana has caused me was after being busted, is getting work because I am now a felon.

to be honest the increased risk is actually due to eating unhealthy foods during spurts of the munchies. you smoke all day and odds are you will be eating high on the hog.
