Do you have cancer and have been thinking about utilizing the Michagan Medical Marijuana Laws?
FEAR!
Marijuana remains far from legal, and loopholes in the new law may create problems down the road, law enforcement and health officials said.
UNCERTAINTY!
“What the ballot initiative does not do is provide an avenue by which you acquire marijuana. For consumers, that is still a major issue.”
DOUBT!
“Physicians are not necessarily protected if a lawsuit arises,” he said. “Also, physicians are scientists and like things to be proven effective. They like dosing and quality control. It puts a doctor in an awkward spot when someone requests medicinal marijuana.”
This story from the “Capitol News Service” (helpfully provided by the Michigan State school of Journalism) tries it hardest to keep the sick and dying from even asking about marijuana, despite it’s overwhelming acceptance by the voting public. Your standard LEO point of view is provided by Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield:
“What the legislation thought was necessary is now creating a lot of problems. It is not user-friendly for law enforcement,”
Since when was law enforcement ever user friendly towards marijuana users? I’m sure Kirk never thought to utilize that most user friendly devices “the phone” to call his buddies in the other 12 states that have medical use laws. I’d bet old Kirk would think the legislation would be necessary if he had throat cancer and couldn’t keep as much as a milkshake down.
After creating as much confusion as he can, the writer John Vailliancourt finishes off the piece by using that old ruse: but the science just isn’t in yet..
It’s unfortunate that we have to constantly educate the public one journalist at a time, but it’s the price that must be paid to win this long struggle.
love your style keep it up. any chance that you could get a rebuttal to this BS published?
looking forward to more great JOURNALISM
and I love it when they say “people make numbers prove anything…”, completely ignoring the fact that if the numbers prove something to be true then it is true.
