Mitt Romney says medical marijuana, gay marriage are “state issues, right, aren’t they, really?” | The NORML Stash Blog

I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.

Presidents will always be puppets to the shadow government, banks and big business. Obama said he would respect states rights on medical marijuana, but when big pharma started to lose money, his drug czar sent federal agents to raid dispensaries. Plus the real drug dealers (The CIA) don’t like to have competition. If the CIA loses money, they can’t fund their Black Operations.

Even if Romney said he supported legalizing marijuana, it wouldn’t mean anything if he got elected, because he would be taken to a dark, smokey room and given his agenda by the real people that run this country.

As long there is corruption from the top down in politics, we will never see any positive changes in this country. We just need to stay vigilant and keep spreading truth and knowledge so hopefully we can wake the majority of people out of their slumber.

Obama- The Great Destroyer or Romney- The BS King??? We as Americans are in for some very dark years….. :-(

romney will take every government program and do just that, have every single person drug tested, as for the states rights issue on pot, i have seen him flip flop on a contraception issue by sen. blunt, that intervenes between a man and his wife. romney said on tv, he would never consider a bill like that, he said “i wont get between a man and wife” one hour later, he had his campaign team release a memo to the press, saying “of course i support the blunt amendment, i thought you were talking about some state bill issue, i misunderstood”. LIAR!! seem he tends for “forget” when it is necessary. sen. blunt is one of the finance guys for romney, and he acted like he did not even know who he was, good god. the most disturbing thing about romney, is he will say anything, rampant lies included, and does it with compunction. it is just natural and normal for him to lie, in his ads too. Anyone who trusts him, is fooled. i want pot legalized, and i am not happy with obama, but with him, at least we have a chance, because of his previous stances on pot. so, i vote obama, and i love gary johnson, but lets face it, this is a two man race. peace :-)

if men can marry men and women can do the same why cant we smke pot god put it here did he not?

This is rather ironic since one of the underlying reasons for Utah being the first (or one of the first) states to make anti-marijuana legislation had to do with the fact that it was at the time carried in from Mexico by Mormans…it is like he is continuing the dis against his own :-?

  17. Benjamin

Really Mitt? Marijuana is causing terrible damage to Mexico Because it’s Illegal to grow and sell marijuana here in the U.S! His claim that marijuana leads to harder drug “sanctions” Is laughable too. I wonder how anyone could vote for such a supreme douche bag?

The reason he said marijuana and gay rights are state issues is because hes making a political calculation, not a honest statement. Further more I would remind our fellow tokers that Mitt Romney would quote ” I promise as President I will drug test for ANY federal aid” meaning social security, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, unemployment benefits, veterans benefits. I bet also he would De-fund federal programs in medical marijuana states to send the message that marijuana is bad em ‘Kay. This man is dangerous, I am probably going to vote for Obama despite his escalating attack on medical marijuana providers because we need someone in office who is not as close minded as Romney so we can start “debating” legalization and decriminalization.

I know it’s hard but this is what politics look like when corporations can buy candidates legally. :hippy:

  18. Joey Habacker

This is not a left-right issue. Obama being the head of the un security council violates the constitution under article 1 paragraph 19. Read it for yourself. How do we know Romney is not going to contradict everything he promises like Obama did and still is. We are losing the republic in this country and when are we going to audit the federal reserve? Legalize marijuana for industrial purposes and stop deforestation? We should just vote for whoever is going to support the constitution and bill of rights. The glass-stegeall act needs to be brought back and money needs to be brought back.

  19. Dad

While I believe you are correct about Romney in particular, I can’t agree with your statement about Mormonism in general. Every Mormon I’ve met so far has been okay with the fact that we use medical cannabis on our son. I’ve met agnostics who expressed concern with this, but none of the three Mormons I’ve talked with stated any kind of problem, and two of them outright said they don’t believe it (cannabis) should be illegal for medical uses.

I think Mormonism has gotten a really bad rap, because while the people cling to “strange” beliefs, I’ve yet to meet a single one who tried to push those beliefs upon me in any way.

It’s my understanding that when Prohibition on alcohol ended in 1933, it was a “state’s rights” issue, and some states and some counties continued to prohibit the sale. In Massachusetts, the state prohibited the sale on “the Lord’s Day” until very recently. Why did they finally get rid of it? Because everyone was flocking to New Hamphsire to buy their booze.
But taking Mr. Mitt’s position that they really are a state’s rights issue, then how would he respond when nearly half of those states want to lay aside the old Prohibitions VS a federal government that wants to press the pedal to metal even more?

  21. fallibilist

Romney will NEVER be Ok on MMJ.

Because his barbaric religion is so abstemious that it requires teetotaling on such items as alcohol and caffeine (and obviously every “illegal” drug, no matter how harmless).

Romney has virtually no principles to speak of. The only thing he won’t do is repudiate Mormonism. I personally hope that the Democrats make a big issue of this.

(Not because I dislike Mormons. But I hate the idea that many on the Right want “people of faith” not only to participate in politics but to impose their morality on normal, regular human beings. For that reason, I would like to point out that neither Mitt, with his polygamist ancestors and his magic undergarments, nor his Mormon brethren (most of whom are good people), are statistically “normal.” So they should lay the fuck off of trying to tell me and my terminally ill neighbor how to live.)

  22. notSpicoli

I believe I read a recent Washington Post article (couldn’t find it to link) that suggested that by Romney taking a strong state’s rights stance on medical marijuana he could placate conservatives (well, as least theoretically) and attract those dissatisfied with Obama’s position.

  23. fallibilist

God, Mittens is such a transparent asshole. I really dislike Barack Obama but God must favor President O b/c, seriously, look what kind of candidate he has for an opponent.

    Seriously, though.

If it’s a state issue, then Romney should pledge to not be raiding dispensaries We’ll leave hyper-conservative Utah alone if he’ll keep the goons out of Montana and Colorado.

But there’s no hope for that. Because Mittens is a hypocrite and an asshole.

As for me, I’ll be voting for former NORML keynote speaker Governor Gary Johnson.
