Welcome to Hemp Day, Hump Day and some sweet folk rhythms with EKOOSTIK HOOKAH and their track, “Grass”. If you have ever seen the Ekoostik Hookah live, then you are already a fan. Their electric, live performances are captured in this, their first live album. For such a cool-named band, the brilliant, but unoriginally-titled album, “Double Live” takes you on the Ekoostik Hookah journey of a fun, jam band that is reminiscent of Phish or even the Dead. This Ohio-based band began by jamming during weekly open-mic nights where they were sharpening their chops while playing in other bands. A stranger who heard them play bankrolled a trip to a recording studio where they recorded their first album, “Under Full Sail”. By the end of that recording the band members had committed themselves full time to the Ekoostik Hookah. Today’s track is a high intensity instrumental jam that is bluegrass infused with Rock and Roll. The soaring solos from lead guitarist Steve Sweeney, the rock solid rhythms of bassist Cliff Starbuck, and drummer Eric Lanese, and the timeless songwriting of John Mullins and Dave Katz will keep Ekoostik Hookah as the darling of the jam band scene for many festival seasons to come.
