One of my favorite artists checks in for the stash today. The late, great, ELLIOTT SMITH will always be remembered by his legions of fans as a great and introspective musician, lyricist and poet. Today we hear the track, “High Times” from an album put out after his death in 2003. The final mixing for this double cd was done by Larry Crane, who is the archivist for the estate of Elliott Smith. A significant portion of proceeds from the album sales go directly to Outside In, a Portland-based social service organization dedicated to providing diverse services for homeless youth and low-income adults. Smith was raised primarily in Texas, but spent most of his adult life in Portland, Oregon where he gained popularity. In his short career he put out five solo albums, and his music today can often be heard in movie soundtracks.
Elliott Smith died October 21, 2003, at the age of 34 in his home in Los Angeles from two stab wounds to the chest. The autopsy evidence was inconclusive as to whether the wounds were self-inflicted. At the time of his death, Smith was working on his sixth studio album, From a Basement on the Hill, which was released posthumously on October 19, 2004.To date the coroner has been unable to determine the cause of death, and the investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department remains open. Learn more about this amazing artist by purchasing one of his albums.
