Another Friday, another great chillin’ Friday party tune. We have the late, great MIKEY DREAD at the controls today with his classic, “Pound a Weed” to take us into a summer weekend. If you love Reggae music, you already know that Mikey Dread is an Icon in the genre. He was a technical wizard and held degrees in engineering and electronics. He started his career as an engineer for the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation in 1976 and that led to him hosting the most popular Jamaican radio program of all time and the first to play only reggae music. He has shared the stage with Bob Dylan, UB40 and Carlos Santana. He produced music for and toured with The Clash. He was loved world wide for his skills at producing great Reggae music. Mikey was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October of 2007 and died on March 15th earlier this year. If you visit his web page at mikeydread.com you will hear his famous voice, thick with Jamaican accent, welcoming you to his page and inviting you to look around. Enjoy this classic from a Reggae master. I doubt many of you could get through a pound of weed in one weekend, but it might be fun to try! Call some friends, they’ll help.
