Welcome back to the Stash! Today I send a love note to all the real guitar lovers out there with the tune, “Smoking Sunshine” by UK guitarist, THE SPECIALIST. This guitar-driven tune is perfect to get us back to business here on the Daily Audio Stash, upbeat, a bit bluesy and with a killer title like, “Smoking Sunshine”. What could he mean? Is Sunshine the name of a super cool strain I have yet to sample? Does it refer to the great upbeat feeling you get after smoking a bit of the kind? The Specialist actually refers to a guy called “Dame”. The amazing guitar loops you hear on this track is Dame along with the man who put them all together, Rufus Ruffcut, a popular UK DJ. (that rhymes!) Rufus is putting Dame’s recorded music out through a small indie label, “IN4RM”. Growing up, Dame was heavily influenced through his brother’s appetite for KISS and other guitar driven rock. As his guitar skills became increasingly amazing, he met a blind guy named Paul with a talent for songs and promotion and they formed a band called “Blue Room”. In January of 2004, just after they finished recording, Dame complained of a headache. His talented mind suffered a rare tumor and Dame died in February of 2004. A card from a fan said it best with “Don’t be sad it’s over, be glad it happened!” Dame lives on in this track and many others. I am glad to play it here on the stash.
