Fort Mill Times | FortMillTimes.com – N. Idaho lawmaker wants medical marijuana law – Fort Mill, SC
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — A northern Idaho lawmakers says legislation to legalize medical marijuana will be introduced in the next Legislative session.Rep. Tom Trail, a Republican from Moscow, says the legislation he is drafting is modeled after bills from the National Conference of State Legislatures and will be similar to statutes in Washington and Oregon.
He says he has some doctors who support allowing the use of medical marijuana.
Last June, though, delegates to a state GOP convention committee voted 21-9 for a resolution opposing relaxation of Idaho’s laws on marijuana.
Understand that Moscow, Idaho, is the home of Sarah Palin’s alma mater – one of them, anyway – the University of Idaho. Moscow and Boise are little blueberries in a big red state thanks to their large young university populations, and Hailey is the working class bedroom community of the celebrity playground up in Sun Valley. So if you see any movement on medical marijuana in the Gem State, that’s where it will arise.
However, like I said, it’s a big red state with a strong Mormon influence. I don’t expect any positive development in marijuana policy statewide within my lifetime. (Listen to our Marijuana Unicorn’s story from Idaho on today’s podcast and you’ll get an idea how cannabis is treated in the land of my birth.)
I’m going to submit information to paper’s around Idaho. I think the more information out there is probably the only thing we can do to start the ball rolling.
I’m more of a hemp advocate then medicinal marijuana but either way it’s a start.
