Hey, cancer! Stop that antitumoral effect, it's embarrassing us!
You may recall last Wednesday when we pointed out this incredible paragraph on the website of the National Cancer Institute at cancer.gov, on their general information about medical cannabis, touting its antitumoral effects:
The potential benefits of medicinal Cannabis for people living with cancer include antiemetic effects, appetite stimulation, pain relief, and improved sleep. In the practice of integrative oncology, the health care provider may recommend medicinal Cannabis not only for symptom management but also for its possible direct antitumor effect.
NCI apparently got a talking to from someone, because now that page has been scrubbed of any reference to the direct antitumoral effects of cannabis:
The potential benefits of medicinal Cannabis for people living with cancer include antiemetic effects, appetite stimulation, pain relief, and improved sleep. Though no relevant surveys of practice patterns exist, it appears that physicians caring for cancer patients who prescribe medicinal Cannabis predominantly do so for symptom management.
See for yourself:

Contact your elected representatives and urge them to 'Stop Arresting Marijuana Smokers'.
[...] it appeared that somebody pressured NCI to revise its update to better align with the government’s prohibition of cannabis. The paragraphs above were [...]
So we all know that Cannabis has wonderfully positive effects for people suffering from a number of conditions, and we know it’s legalization would provide billions in much needed tax revenue. Now we find it may help reduce or prevent tumors, and our government wants the information scrubbed. Well isn’t that just a kick right up the ass. #@$$#! SOB’s.
One half of me is inclined to disseminate knowledge on multiple methods one might utilize to induce cancer, and then observe with jovial delight as you obtain Darwin-Award status in your despotic quest for marijuana goodness. The other half of me, however, is averse to engaging in the facilitation of your doom, out of fear of eternal damnation. Thus, no impartation of said knowledge shall occur
Marijuana side effects are much milder and more manageable than those that come with traditional medicines. And unlike thousands of other medicines, there has never been a death attributed to marijuana overdose. I recommend visiting http://marijuanadoctors.com. marijuana doctors was founded to act as the trusted gateway for patients searching for medical marijuana treatment in legal medical marijuana states. Hope this helps.

FROM THE HUFFINGTON POST “I recommend an excellent documentary film, “What if Cannabis Cured Cancer,” by Len Richmond, which summarizes the remarkable research findings of recent years about the cancer-protective effects of novel compounds in marijuana. Most medical doctors are not aware of this information and its implications for cancer prevention and treatment.”- ANDREW WEIL, M.D.
“A Hugely Important Film”– JULIE HOLLAND, M.D. NYU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
“A Must See Film”– MARIJUANA POLICY PROJECT, WASHINGTON, D.C.
Using original and archival footage, the 60 minute documentary presents highly convincing evidence that this forbidden herb has healing properties beyond any other plant on the planet— interacting as it does with the body’s own “endocannabinoid system” to keep us fit and disease-free. “What if Cannabis Cured Cancer” explains how we are all born with a form of marijuana already in our bodies, and when pot is consumed, the “endocannabinoids” inside us—along with any cannabinoids we ingest—fit together like a key in a lock, thereby promoting the death of cancer cells without harming the body’s healthy cells. A powerful and eye-opening film about the future of cannabis—and perhaps even the future of medicine. Narrated by Emmy-winning actor, PETER COYOTE.

This link now goes to the new and improved page; the dangerous old one’s gone already.
Maybe it was an April Fools’ joke?
No problem. Glad I could help.
And thank you for the awesome blog!
This is fucking ridiculous.
Knew it was too good to be true when I saw a .gov site saying cannabis was good, even if in small ways.
Thank you so much!
Isn’t that pretty much the norm now days? That just about every time that a medical or a scientific study reports a previously unknown benefit from using Marijuana, soon after it’s reported on – there’s a change, usually denouncing marijuana once again – which is just another clear example of the ONGOING PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN by non other than our corrupt government!
Take the Maryland legislature and the proposed Medical Marijuana bills that were introduced this session. Everything was moving along in a positive direction… then, in an instant…. poof, no medical Marijuana this year, we need to study this more… ummmmm, didn’t you have all year to do that IF that was what patients in the state needed???? I mean, do you really think we’re all that dumb?????
You would think after last year and the single hand defeat of similar legislation by the House Judiciary Chair, that if the state intended to perform a “STUDY”, and come up with legislation that works for the patients and the lawmakers… that this newly appointed OPPONENT of legalizing Marijuana in any way shape or form, Dr. Joshua Sharfstein secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene would have at least made an effort to have his PERSONAL OPINION on the record BEFORE the hearings. But noooooo, Gov O’Malley and Dr. Joshua Sharfstein clearly had an agenda to derail the effort in the sneakiest, most underhanded way possible. Now, we’re supposed to believe that this study won’t have tainted data and will be honest, yea right… Gov O’Malley is clearly going to put as many stumbling blocks in front of us as he possibly can… so we need to get this joker out of our State House. There is NO WAY he’s going to ever approve – even after a study, senate and house passing bills… he isn’t going to sign them into law just to slow the process down as much as he can… he’s clearly an our opponent!
Mark my words, every possible negative will most certainly appear in the study data, while the numerous benefits, most of which are already documented, will be left out… or discounted by another “opinion” of some fatcat lawmaker or one of their cronnies, not by fact or scientific data. The writing is on the wall … even though 75% of Maryland residents see the need for, and support legislation to legalize Marijuana for medical use – one or two “opinions” will overrule any data to the contrary… It’s not just Maryland it’s nationally and you can see it the daily media reports… ANYtime someone is arrested for ANYthing… if they happen to use Marijuana that will appear in the headline of the story… as an example, a headline would read….
” Bank is robbed at gunpoint, led police on high speed chase, crashed and was apprehended… small amount of marijuana found in vehicle! ” (and was probably a 2 year old roach under the seat)
As if the thief was in the church choir, and had never done anything wrong in their entire life… then smoked a doobie and instantly became a raving criminal – do they also report on people taking antidepressants or other medications like that… heck no, BIG PHARMA would have their neck in a noose if they did… see, you can’t patent the plant (hence, the DEA changing the chemical form of THC from a class 1 to class 3 controlled substance so they can MONOPOLIZE AND CASH IN) … even though the states are doing their best to ensure that dispensaries are “NON-PROFIT” when it comes to Big Bro… it’s ALL ABOUT PROFITS, not our health… same thing has happened all across the country with traffic cameras… it’s about the $$ cha’ching $$ that they can bring in, NOT about any ones safety… it’s all about the money
But you know, the way I see it… it’ only a matter of time before VOTERS WAKE UP, kick these clowns out of office and send them packing… FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE only works if the people actually stand up for their rights and stop letting a few lawmakers run our lives…
SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE VOTING RECORDS ON ALL MARIJUANA RELATED LEGISLATION THAT DIDN’T PASS WHEN PUBLIC OPINION SAID YES, AND LAWMAKERS SAID NO – AND VOTE THEM OUT, VOTE AND CAST OUT THE DEMONS IN YOUR STATE AND WE’LL HAVE OUR DAY SOONER THAN YOU THINK! do nothing, thinking that someone else will fight the fight for you, and we may end up even worse then we are now… Patriot Act my arse… taking away what our this countries founders granted each and every citizen… excuse me… is NOT PATRIOTIC!

The bad part is that many doctors and patients would have at least tired cannabis or looked at it as part of the treatment. You have seen how closed minded some of the doctors and patients are. If the government doesn’t plant the seed, it will never grow or will grow very slowly.
…might as well be burning books….
I hear the echo from Washington “cut spending”, health care needs innovative new ways to cut costs, but this highly useful plant that will save money for everyone is still suppressed,, unbelievable
How can they not see the huge money and national treasure wasted on prohibition.
