Netherlands to close prisons for lack of criminals

The Dutch justice ministry has announced it will close eight prisons and cut 1,200 jobs in the prison system. A decline in crime has left many cells empty.
During the 1990s the Netherlands faced a shortage of prison cells, but a decline in crime has since led to overcapacity in the prison system. The country now has capacity for 14,000 prisoners but only 12,000 detainees.
Deputy justice minister Nebahat Albayrak announced on Tuesday that eight prisons will be closed, resulting in the loss of 1,200 jobs. Natural redundancy and other measures should prevent any forced lay-offs, the minister said.
The overcapacity is a result of the declining crime rate, which the ministry’s research department expects to continue for some time.

Remember this the next time a prohibitionist tells you how terrible things became once the Dutch began tolerating sales and use of marijuana in coffee shops. They’re closing prisons because they haven’t enough criminals; we’re home to the largest imprisoned population on the planet in history.

This guy would be fine if he would come at them from the inside, but I don’t think that’s why he took the job nor do I think that they hired him just because he is good, its more likely a play to keep him silent, then they can keep arresting sick people! Gee I hope they sleep better at night knowing they locked up all their sick and dying citizens!
In fact how do they sleep, I bet they don’t have a soul, that’s it I found their secret! Prohibitionists have no soul, they can’t, how could someone feel good about locking up Marijuana smokers? Someone without a Soul that’s who!
Bill O’Reilly claims that Amsterdam is a nightmare of dopers passed out in the streets. Heroin addicts shooting up in front of families picnicking in parks with their kids. Droves of mindless doped out zombies walking the streets just waiting to commit violent crimes against a public that is to scared to leave their homes.

Hah. Unfortunately prohibitionists will just say they have no criminals because everything is legal over there.
