I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.

No, because the group to which I am referring calls themselves “Patients Against I-502″, therefore I am referring solely to that group with “Patients Against Pragmatism”.
As for a wedge between medical and recreational? That wedge was created in 1996 when activists made the conscious decision to fight only for patients’ rights, because that was politically pragmatic. Funny how pragmatic they were then when it came to keeping themselves out of a cage, but so idealistic now when they’ve been safe from a cage for thirteen years.
Patients are not my enemy. People who organize to vote against legalization are my enemy, whether they are working for the ONDCP or a dispensary. In fact, I’m trying to protect patients from arrest and better legalize their stores (and lower their prices) by voting FOR I-502.
Again, there was never a “Tokers Against Prop 215″ but there were plenty of “Patients Against Prop 19″. If patients want to fight alongside NORML, they need to support what NORML is doing to legalize marijuana for non-patients. I am grateful for all patients who join us.
Ive been a long time supporter of legalization, 1-1068(WA), Prop19(CA), I-1149(WA), I-505(WA), but I can not support I-502, it is a destructive and misleading law.
Can you talk about those against pragmatism without calling them patients?
With one phrase, you’re making the assumption that these “anti-pragmatists” are all patients.
Russ, you and NORML have a wealth of support (and donations) from MMJ patients, and I can’t understand why you feel compelled to perpetuate the stereotype of “I gots mine” patients.
You go so far as to say, “We supported you, now it’s your turn to support us (paraphrasing)”, suggesting MMJ patients have abandoned activism and advocacy for legalized non-medical use.
You’re so wrong.
But, keep it up, and you’ll succeed in driving an unmovable wedge between patients and yourself. Your “we supported you” rap sounds like you’re done supporting MMJ patients. Does NORML really need another med vs. non-med controversy?
There are plenty of patients still willing to fight along side NORML.
Wouldn’t it make sense for NORML to express some gratitude, or is it time to lump all patients together as the enemy?

I made this video about it tonight.

I agree with you Bluzguy!
I agree with most of what you’re saying, but…
