Proponents have argued that the use of marijuana for medical purposes can be extremely helpful to those undergoing chemotherapy. It is also proposed that it can ease the pain of those who are terminally ill. I am very sympathetic with those who desire its use for these reasons.
However, under federal law, the sale and possession of marijuana is still illegal. In states, that have legalized medical marijuana such as California, the federal government continues to enforce its laws. I cannot in good conscience vote for a bill that would allow citizens to become federal criminals. Until the federal government changes its law, it is futile for New York to try to regulate this field.

Oh isnt that just nice, he doesnt want to make federal criminals, but he feels our pain and suffering, just not loud enouph to really help those that need it. Blame the ferds why dont you, gee not like they havent come out and said they werent going to go after these states that have laws, so why is he saying to wait?
