(Contra Costa Times) Oakland International Airport may be the nation’s only airport with a specific policy letting users of medical marijuana travel with the drug. The policy is spelled out in a three-page document quietly enacted last year by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. It states that if deputies determine someone is a qualified patient or primary caregiver as defined by California law and has eight ounces or less of the drug, he or she can keep it and board the plane.
Deputies warn the pot-carrying passengers that they may be committing a felony upon arrival when they set foot in a jurisdiction where medical marijuana is not recognized. But they say they don’t call ahead to alert authorities on the other end.
OK, maybe, just maybe, I could be convinced to fly in an airplane again…
However, while Oakland may be the only airport with a written policy, I have a report from a medical patient in Oregon that Portland International will allow a cardholder to board a plane with up to that state’s legal limit of possession, or twenty-four ounces.
All I’m sayin’ is that I’ve found the specially-infused non-Kellogg’s-variety Rice Crispy treats are perfect for long flights. Easily packed in a carry-on, innocuous-looking, a sweet snack before takeoff, a dreamy nap in a pressurized tube hurtling through the sky at 500 miles per hour, very nice.

Yes.
I am traveling from AZ to VA for a vacation and I am a medical marijuana card holder, is it illegal to fly to VA with medical marijuana? Please help!!!
I am going to fly from OAK to Kauai.. I have got to have my medicine out there.. what is the best way to do this?
When can i bring my medical cannabis on a flight from Cambodia to USA ? Schedule 1 must go away– do to fraud/prevarication on cannabis, not the ex-intelligence officer and beloved…Roger Christie…I’.ve checked your marvelous potcast history, and never at NORML a fair hearing with us talking about faith. You admitted your most senior hemp activists are atheists. They rant against us without rebuttal. We agree on 97% already, and there has been charges of fraud–the prohibition is the FRAUD–and don’t have a oneway discourse on this vital issue.
Legal in California, but do you have your Oregon card? I’d be careful and re-think whether you bring medicine on a plane. Oakland Int’l may not have a problem with it, but once you’re on that plane, you’re in federal jurisdiction, and they don’t like medical marijuana so much. Then, once in Oregon, if you aren’t an Oregon cardholder and you’re holding more than an ounce, you’re a felon.
You can, however, become an Oregon cardholder even without moving to Oregon. We have no residency requirements.
I am a legal patient flying to oregon from san francisco. how do i bring? on myself or luggage?
Well, WakeUpDead, I used to live in Oregon. I really can’t think of a reason why anyone would leave Oregon to go to California to buy weed. Kinda pointless. Trust me on that. Just sayin’ . . .
This brings up a question.
living in a non-medical mj state I am pretty clueless to the law. But do you have to be a resident of that state that does have legal med mj to be a patient?
Im not sure how good this is or not, but in theory you could fly to CA from OR pick up a crap load of medical grade marijuana and fly back that day with your medicine? Im not sure if this wont just spark the feds to bust people flying over state lines with marijuana? We shall see.
they really should put “pot bars” in airports… people would be a lot calmer flying high than flying drunk….. maybe sell marijuana edibles in flight or pre flight…. yea… i would be looking for reasons to fly
