Obama declares April 8, 2009 “National D.A.R.E. Day”

Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 9:02 pm | By: Radical Russ

I can’t write this up any better than the email I just got from Stasher Rhett:

The road to hell is paved with what?

President Obama has just proclaimed April 8th as National D.A.R.E. day.

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 8, 2009, as National D.A.R.E. Day.”

How noble.

An excerpt from the speech had him saying that “The D.A.R.E. program has worked to educate students about drugs, gangs, and violence for more than 25 years. Placing law-enforcement personnel in the classroom, D.A.R.E. provides students with important lessons from experts and seeks to prepare them for the difficult encounters and choices they may face.”

The reality is that this program has had no positive effect on our society or our kids in any way. It is a complete waste of tax dollars. In 25 years of this program we have seen a steady increase of drug use in our kids at younger ages. I submit that this program is just exposing most kids to drugs much earlier than otherwise. These local cops that show up are not experts in any way, either. They are trained to enter the classrooms and lie about things above their pay grades. This programs sole purpose is to make money for the law enforcement economy by perpetuating nonsense.

My personal account of D.A.R.E was an officer coming into the class, doing a show and tell of various drugs and then asking us to NARC on our friends and parents if we ever see any of these things. It was the first time I had ever seen or heard of illegal drugs. Few, if any of us, were interested. We were more concerned with the expected dodge ball game during the next recess. Years later, when I finally did encounter marijuana, I used my memory of the joint the officer showed us to help figure out how to roll it up. Thanks D.A.R.E!

This administration isn’t going to make drug policy decisions from a position of integrity or intelligence. They are demonstrating, with actions, that they are going to take the lobby money and run the same plays we have seen in previous years. Obama is looking to be a one termer. Maybe we will get a real candidate for change next time.

Now, Therefore, I, Taxpayer 420, Citizen of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by laws and constitution of the united states, do hereby proclaim April 8th as national dog and pony show day.

I hope pop culture turns April 8th into a annual Marijuana rally of some kind. It would only be fitting.

Obama was off by a week – it should have been April 1.
While DARE is a waste of time for our kids and their teachers, it’s $ for cops. If he canceled DARE he would have to add the $ back to cops, while parents and the anti-drug industry join with the Republicans and complain that Mr. O is soft on drugs. Politics sucks. But I’ll hug their elephant, and they can kiss my ass.

I wouldn’t mind DARE so much if they focused on helping kids develop assertiveness skills so that they could comfortably decline unwanted offers of recreational drugs. Many kids probably do at least start using drugs due to peer pressure. Mental set is important in appropriate use of any psychoactive drug. It is better to not do them unless you feel comfortable about it. And, assertiveness skills are transferable to other areas of life.

DARE, though, is especially sucky. It is led by police officers. Police officers are not teachers. They teach “obey or get tased, a$$hole!” Police officers should be on the streets enforcing the law and catching criminal offenders, not misleading children. As a taxpayer, I object to this waste of public funds.

Also, teachers are being paid to teach the children, not to let nice Mr. Officer come and propagandize the minds of little children. The police officers are not policing, and the teachers are not teaching – a double waste of taxpayer money. Outrageous!

Further, I doubt that police officers, or even teachers, will tell the children the truth about drugs. The children will find out the truth about drugs, though. And when they do, they will know that they have been handed a line of crap, justifiably causing a distrust and disrespect for both school and police.

If you are a parent, the job is yours to teach your children the truth about drugs. Teach them how to be assertive, also. Don’t count on the police to get even that right. The last thing that the police want is a population of assertive citizens.

    WEBB 2012

“Senator Jim Webb of Virginia looks at these numbers and in a speech on the Senate floor wondered out loud: “Either we have the most evil people on Earth living in the United States, or we are doing something dramatically wrong.” He has introduced a bill, which already has 19 co-sponsors including Republicans and Democrats (including the top three Republicans on the Judiciary Committee), that will answer that question. It sets up a national commission, the National Criminal Justice Commission, which will look at ways to reduce the prison population including rethinking drug policy. The chairman will be appointed by President Barack Obama who reportedly has called Webb twice to commend this effort.”

  6. Robert Vetter says:

All the D.A.R.E. Program does to sow the seeds of confusion in the hearts and minds of children against their parents is a disgusting affront to humanity and a sin against Parents worldwide. At a young age children start learning and wanting to please people in authority, other than their parents… To take advantage of little children in this way is immoral.. The entire Drug War is a total failure that needs to be treated as a medical and mental health issue. L.E.A.P. Law Officers Against Prohibition endorse total Drug Legalization under Scientific guidelines as a way to empty our prisons of non violent drug offenders so police can chase to real bad guys. Not people who automatically become criminals because of a stupid Law!!!

At least he didn’t make it on April 20th, then we’d know EXACTLY what his agenda really is.

  8. moldy says:

Obama is reverting into a presidential cocoon that prevents truth from entering. It seems to happen to every one of them. That’s why the fight needs to stay local as the Federal Government is turning out to be the true enemy… again. :-(

I knew we were in trouble when Obama went to and met with the Clintons (before the election). I thought then that they are turning him into one of them.( a business as usual run of the mill statous qou kind of guy)My worst fear is coming true.He is buying into the the same failed laws on drugs. He is forgetting his brothers in jails all over the U.S. The ones that should not be there.Just because they want to somke a plant. It is so stupid to put someone in jail for a plant.I know I,ve been there 120 days in the county jail, for growing pot . I do feel lucky they did not give me the 5 years they could have givin me.I am so bad for smoking pot they gave me the other 5 yrs on probation.Piss dirty once and I go back to jail for 5 years. This is so stupid.I pay my bills.I have 3 kids 2 have graduated collage one is no her way.By the way im 49 years old and have smoked since I was 13 years old . My life was lovely till they came and got me out of bed and pull my plants that were in my back yard .(well hidden as they could have been)Its like they just robbed me at gun point.Obama I told everyone to vote for him.As I cant vote for being a felon for growing a plant.I hope he comes to his sences soon. Please someone wake him up to who put him in the white house…….
