NORML is pleased to announce that, HB 478 the Ohio Medical Compassion Act, has been introduced into the Ohio House of Representatives. This bill would make Ohio the fifteenth state to legalize the physician-supervised use of cannabis. HB 478 is currently awaiting assignment to a committee.
As introduced, House Bill 478 would allow state-authorized patients to possess and cultivate cannabis for therapeutic purposes. The bill allows patients or their designated caregivers to cultivate marijuana, but only at designated registered sites. Patients are allowed to possess up to 200 grams of usable cannabis or 12 mature plants under this proposal
A May 2009 Ohio Poll, onducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati, found that 73 percent of Ohio adults favored allowing medical marijuana.
Please contact your state representative and urge him or her to support HB 478. For your convenience, a pre-written letter will be e-mailed to your state House member when you enter your contact information below.

Ohio Legislature Considers Medical Marijuana Reform

Marijuana is safer than alcohol! I would love to see this bill pass! As a pain sufferer, and an Ohio resident,I believe medical marijuana would not only help Ohio’s drug and alcohol abuse problems, but help our economy as well. “MARIJUANA SAVES LIVES”. Bottom line!!
i have degenerative disk disease in my lower back. i have to sleep in a recliner because i cant lay down .none of the exersisizes work anymore.meds dont work anymore.i am in pain 24/7.the only thing that works is marijuana. help me please
This is a bill that MUST be passed for many different reasons. In the passed 10 yrs. I have been diagnosed with several orthopedic problems and anxiety. I have been placed on pain meds., and have been told I will be on them for the rest of my life! Before being placed in a pain management program pot used to help with the pain and the anxiety. Now I am not able to smoke for fear of being trown out of my program. I have to have to have more major surgries. So I do need pain meds. Now, instead of just being able to smoke to help my pain and anxiety, I have been placed on benzos and pain meds which are way more addictive than pot! it makes no sense to force me on to drugs that I really do not want to take, when pot can help with both! On top of all the lost revenue the state could be making. Everyone please lets pass this Bill!
as a cancer patient in ohio i am not allowed to use the one thing that realy helps and i am one of many
We need this bill passed, alot of people are suffering needlessly.
I to have back problems like the first gentleman. I am prescribed two vicodin extra strength a day. But when my pain management doctor found marijuana in my urine he said I had to quit or I would be discharged and labeled a drug user in my med file for all other doctors to see. I could tell that he does not agree with it. And I believe that most doctors don’t. But he snd all others are forced to do this or they risk losing all they’ve worked so hard for.so now I live in more pain without my marijuana because it do need the vicodin to work everyday. But now I suffer from depression and extreme anxiety without my beloved herb. But I refuse to take more pills for those problems. All I can do now is hope and fight for what I know is right. My right to have marijuana and the medicines that I need.
Ohio is the heart state! if medical comes here, it will get pumped through the veins of every other state haha.
if it is passed here, i could see many other states passing similar bills as well.
anyway good news, good news indeed.
i have been suffering from arthritis for 12 years…when i was first diagnosed i told my doctor that i was a faithful smoker and his reply was “it’s the best pain reliever with the fewest side affects” and told me if it was legal he would prescribe it in a heartbeat!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pass this bill so we can have a God given plant!!! its ridiculous the side effects of pills….not to mention if they would legalize it and tax the crap out of it we wouldnt have the national debt that we do! we WASTE $13 BILLION a YEAR just on the “war on pot”!!!!! JUST ON POT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish they would realize what good really does come from this wonderful plant!!!! Last I knew I lived in AMERICA! where we lived to be FREE!!! now the government is telling us what we can use for medicine?!?!??!!?
O HI O, HB-478 Hurry it up!
Please consider!
Medical marijuana is needed. I have hepatitis c and the nausea is easily relieved by pot. Hope this passes!
I am Ohio native and would be so happy If we got medical.
Finally
this could be a very good thing
This would put more people to work than the “american reinvestment act” Those people who work on roads never run out of work.
I have had radiation burns for over 12 years…from rectal cancer… I CANNOT find a suitable prescription to help me… I would like to get LEGALIZED MARAJUINA BUT I LIVE IN FLORIDA. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have good friends in California…but even if I visit…how can I get the medical marijuana?
i find it totally crazy that my doctor will prescribe me 395 mgs of oxycontin daily and will not allow me to smoke a joint at night to help alliveate my pain. i have had 2 back surgeries(the last one involving the fusion of 4 disc). i do need my pain meds but i could take less if he would let me light up. i am 50 years old and feel like a 9 year old child being told by the doctor that if i have cannabis in my urine that my pain meds will be cut off and i will be dismissed as a patient. i ask you, is that fair??? i thought this was america.
I’ve been an Ohio native for 33 years and I suffer from several nuerological problems from ddd. I would rather light up instead of take 3 different kinds of pills that are very hard on my liver and kidneys. Marijuana is far better for my pain than all those pills!
I’m happy to see Ohio is attempting to pass a medical bill because of people like me who fight pain daily, it really helps my back after two back surgeries.
I would go one step further and just legalize it. I can’t see how quietly relaxing in my backyard and smoking a doobie after a hard day at work could bother anyone. How petty.
I totally would love 2 c Ohio move toward legalize it marijuana helps relive the phantom pains I suffer from the lost of my legs it;s so close but I’;m stuck here & Michigan is so close but yet 2 far
I personally would love to see medical marijuana in Ohio. I have ben sick for about 16 years I have severe athritis in my hips, shoulders, and lower back problems. I also have had 27 heart attacks,6 bypasses, therteen heart caths, 3 phimpops on my legs, I have very little curculation in most of my body
which creates alot of pain piriod. And I got a pacemaker/difbulator and my heart is 100% blocked I get angina pains like you wouldn’t believe and body aches, and muscle spasms. my heart beat is normal between 49-60 it sets the buzzer everytime I check it at home. the point is I have been on several meds at this point I take16 a day not counting pain meds if I take my pain meds I would take 24 a day Instead I smoke a marijuana cig in the morning one in the after noon at one or two at night.approx. 2 grams or so aday. which is 14 to 15 grams a week compared to 168 pills a week 672 pills a month 2688 a year.
I dont know why i would want to lealize medical marijuana!!!!!! Do you? please vote to change the Ohio laws. Stand-Up AMERICA does the people run america or the Goverment.
no more pain pills mmarijuana better for back pain any way
Lived there for 33 years(Canton area) been away for 7 and now they are going to do this? Its well over due! If OH had voter inititives this would be over in OHIO years ago! Simply another state like too many others where the legislators are ignoring the citizens and their wishes!
I’m happy to see Ohio is attempting to pass a medical bill.
