As the Associate Director of Oregon NORML – a local chapter headquartered in Portland, Oregon – I am proud to announce the release from Oregon NORML Press of The Oregon Medical Marijuana Act Handbook. This is the definitive guide for the patient, caregiver, or grower in Oregon trying to learn the ins and outs of our medical marijuana program. The guide answers common questions from “How do I register with the state to use cannabis medicinally?” and “What are the possession limits regarding plants and medicine?”* to “What do I tell my landlord or the police about my medical marijuana?” and “What if my doctor won’t help me with a marijuana recommendation.” The handbook also contains a complete copy of the Oregon Revised Statutes governing medical marijuana. * 18 seedlings, 6 mature plants, 24 ounces of usable marijuana – the greatest regulated statewide possession limits of any of the twelve medical marijuana states… though some places in California allow much more, this is on a county-by-county basis and is also mitigated by the recommendation of the doctor, who may recommend marijuana for any condition he or she believes it will help.
Oregon’s medical marijuana act has been used by some of the other medical marijuana states, like Colorado, as a template for designing their own medical marijuana laws, though these states have seen fit to stick to the lower possession limits (< 3 ounces, < 8 plants) that were similar to the original limits of Oregon’s law before the SB 1085 amendments of 2005.
“seedlings” changed to ‘vegging’ plants, “mature” changed to ‘budding’.. all is well.
