Give Your Comments on Scientific Integrity
As the President delivered his remarks to the National Academy of Sciences this morning, the Office of Science & Technology Policy was launching its new blog around a push for conversation and public comment on the President’s memorandum on scientific integrity issued in March.
Go give your comment, and have a look around the new OSTP blog.
The President gave the context in his remarks:
On March 9th, I signed an executive memorandum with a clear message: Under my administration, the days of science taking a back seat to ideology are over. Our progress as a nation – and our values as a nation – are rooted in free and open inquiry. To undermine scientific integrity is to undermine our democracy. It is contrary to our way of life.
That’s why I have charged John Holdren in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy with leading a new effort to ensure that federal policies are based on the best and most unbiased scientific information. I want to be sure that facts are driving scientific decisions – and not the other way around.
As part of this effort, we’ve already launched a website that allows individuals to not only make recommendations to achieve this goal, but to collaborate on those recommendations; it is a small step, but one that is creating a more transparent, participatory and democratic government.
I just can’t muster up the energy. According to the federal government, based on its free and open scientific inquiry, I’m an amotivated slacker loser destined to become a heroin junkie, goofing off while my sister drowns and running over little girls at fast food drive thru’s. According to the federal government, the medicine I use has no medicinal value. My choice of intoxicant has a high potential for abuse, even though I harm no one and it kills no one, and is far more dangerous than alcohol. Besides, anyone who would question the scientific validity of our federal marijuana policy is just an internet troll, anyway.
This is a war. Let us never forget the U.S. Government declared war upon us. This is what boils down to a civil war being waged by the government against honest hard working Americans like Charles Lynch. Wheres our peace talks Obama? Keep this in mind while arming yourselves to respectfully indulge the President’s request and let him know what we think, based on science and evidence.
A government of the people, for the people, by the people that is at war with said people has far outreached its authority. This is where “We the People” must now stand and take action.
This could be entertaining. We all know what is going to happen. Somehow all those couch potato potheads are going to “skew the results” again. I can’t wait to hear what they say this time.
Russ, you forgot the “not your father’s pot” bit.
