Record Breaking Seizures of Marijuana throughout California in 2008 – International Business Times –
Sacramento, CA (Vocus) November 19, 2008 — California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) and other participants of the CAMP program including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Field Division Offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego, in conjunction with the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of California, announce record breaking seizures of marijuana seized from California public and private lands during CAMP season and Operation Green Acres 2.CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting) reported a second year of record breaking numbers of marijuana plants eradicated during the 2008 season at 2.9 million. Of the 2.9 million plants, 2 million were seized from public lands while the remainder was seized from private lands. Marijuana eradication season begins in July and continues through October.
The counties with the highest numbers of eradicated plants for 2008 are: Lake (499,508), Tulare (395,489), Shasta (394,375), Mendocino (231,802), and Humboldt (145,762). All counties listed, except for Humboldt, had an increase in the number of marijuana plants eradicated. Last year, 53 individuals were arrested and 41 weapons were seized. During the 2008 season, 143 individuals were arrested and 142 weapons seized.
Let’s see, 2.9 million uprooted marijuana plants. How many of those were non-psychoactive feral hemp, the plant that grows wild, is tended by nobody, and has such low THC it will never get you high?
Unfotunately, nobody is tellin’. See, the government used to pubish the numbers of plants they eradicated and would break those down into columns telling us exactly which kind of plants they were. Year after year, the percentage of the marijuana eradicated was 98%-99%. Then we would point out how foolish and wasteful it was to use cops and helicopters to do not much more than pulling weeds. So now, rather than change a foolish and wasteful policy, they just don’t publish those numbers anymore.
The eradication of marijuana certainly hasn’t affected Californians’ use of marijuana. Rather than address the root cause, the prohibition of a popular commodity that creates the profit motive and need for clandestine growsites on public land, cops would rather have their easy outdoors sunshine gig ripping up plants and transporting them by helicopter, where their seeds fall from the sky to perpetuate next year’s round of feral hemp eradication

Awesome just throw that right out there
The FEDS have never heard of Norml neither do they monitor this website SMART
The reason more weed was picked up in Lake County is because the biggest trees are Oak trees so you can’t really hide your Pot . Then there is Humboldt which shows the least amount of confiscated Pot . Well , Humboldt is actually first and grows more Pot than any other County . Humboldt is the County with the tallest trees in the World . The redwood trees so , you can hide your grow under the trees and the helicopters can’t swoop down low there like you can in other Counties . There are many more indoor grows that can also be hidden under redwood trees . Humboldt is a County of huge forests , so the growing is harder to spot .Tulare County = same similar thing as Lake County . No real forests & trees are small like in Lake County .Mendocino County is actually second most producing marijuana County . It is like Humboldt but , Mendocino trees are smaller . They have redwood trees there , too but not as many as Humboldt . Mendocino has Pine trees , oak and the smaller trees unlike Humboldt which has huge redwood trees .

What is so sad is that I work in a hospice and with terminal patients who truly need medical THC to reduce pain, stimulate appetite, releave nausea and muscle/nerve pain for real. Sitting around getting high instead of following one’s dream is one thing but this is a waste of resources on both sides. Financially Ca could use the money and police force to deal with true offences and physically patients need the relief. And lets not even get into how damaging alcohol is on so many levels. I remember when CAMP was fun!
Yeap, Troll is my guess too. Keep up the good work Russ!!!
MM, you never answered his question about what it was about his post that DID “insult” you.
My guess is you are a troll. B’bye.
Well, in review of my first post, I admit its vague and–as I conclude from your response–completely devoid of any sense at all.
So anyway, main article aside, if I didn’t know better I would chuckle and say that your response is tongue-in-cheek.
Now really, did you think I was insulted by gov’t reported statistics and/or the fact that you pointed them out? I agree, if I were that would be just plain silly. Then, apparently without consideration to what I had said, you opine as to the error in moderate support for CAMP. Just to be clear, I didn’t say a lick about support for CAMP, moderate or otherwise.
I could/can go on and expound on my vaguery etc. but (here is where someone can be civil, perhaps even considerate…) I’m 0 for 2 so far…but I’ve already probably given too much fuel to be misdirected back at me. Sheesh
I don’t understand how you think pointing out the federal government’s own figures on marijuana eradication is somehow an insult to you.
Please explain how I am to win over moderates like yourself, if not by pointing out what a failure marijuana prohibition is as a policy. If support for CAMP among moderates is based on the idea that CAMP is somehow doing society some good, then moderates should be told that assumption is wrong.
Feel free to browse some more, but don’t expect me to change my tone regarding the cruel futility that is the war on cannabis.
Wow–my first visit here and I have to say, if the commentary following the news release is at all typical of the atmosphere here, shame on you.
You insult those of us who support the basics of your agenda and aren’t either way too baked to notice, to dumb to think for ourselves/recognize poor journalism or aren’t already extremists.
You won’t win over the moderate voting sector–a chuck of us large enough to (probably) have your agenda see fruition were you to actually do so.
Sad sad sad. I think I’ll browse 3 more articles, in all fairness, and decide if I should even bother….
