Thank you for contacting my office to share your thoughts on legislation regarding marijuana prohibition. As your Representative, I am guided by the perspectives of my constituents and our common goals of restoring fiscal responsibility to our nation’s federal government, revitalizing our economy, protecting the Chesapeake Bay and preserving the agricultural heritage of our communities.
H.R. 5843, an Act to Remove Federal Penalties for the Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults was introduced in the 110th Congress by Rep. Barney Frank on March 17, 2008. Although, similar legislation has not been introduced in the 111th Congress, you can be confident that I will keep your views in mind if it is. On this and every issue I will carefully consider the facts on all sides of the debate and support the position that I think is best for my constituents in the 1st district of Maryland.
Please do not hesitate to contact me again in the future regarding issues that concern you. I believe that continuous communication with the residents of the First District is essential to helping me be an effective advocate for you in Congress. Thank you again for contacting me and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Frank M. Kratovil, Jr.
Member of Congress

Okay Rep. Vague. But at least he didn’t outright dismiss the idea.
I hope you replied back asking him to introduce new legislation himself….or to go seek out Barney Frank and convince him to reintroduce it, offerring his full support. One of the problems with congress is people waiting for someone else to introduce legislation, especially controversial legislation. For me this is not the most pressing issue of the day but this needs to happen.
