Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1866, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
I agree that agriculture is a critical part of our economy.
If enacted, H.R. 1866 would amend the Controlled Substances Act to exclude industrial hemp from the definition of “marihuana.” The bill would define “industrial hemp” to mean the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-nine tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration that does not exceed 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis. The bill would also grant a state regulating the growing and processing of industrial hemp exclusive authority, in any criminal or civil action or administrative proceeding, to determine whether any such plant meets that THC concentration limit.
This legislation was introduced by Representative Ron Paul of Texas on April 2, 2009, and is currently pending before the House Committees on Energy and Commerce and on the Judiciary.
Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should H.R. 1866 come to the House floor for a vote.
Again, thank you for taking the time to write to me about this issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if you have additional comments or concerns.

Rep. Mitchell can take his non-statement and shove it up his ass.
im still wondering how to get a prescription for my medical condition for the last 7 years(my condition that is). it seems that smoking a little herb keeps my anxiety and hypertension @ bay without any ‘manufactured’ substances left to accumulate in my body. do we not have a choice as to what we can take to treat our illness/disorders? or are we subject to the pharmacutical standards of the a.m.a? one more concerned citizen just speaking out.
I live in Arizona, and am disappointed that he did not provide his current stance on it whether he is for it or against it. He did say ‘I agree that agriculture is a critical part of our economy…’
Sounds like he just needs it to be rescheduled first. Hopeful thinking.
