Big Swing Face is a musical project of saxophonist Ben Vinci. Starting at the age of three years old, Ben had an interest in music. he took a special interest in the saxophone from listening to his father’s collection of jazz albums, but his teachers recommended that he start out on clarinet. After playing the clarinet for a couple of years, he finally took up the alto sax. Nowadays, Ben continues to play alto sax and clarinet, as well as 11 other woodwind instruments.
Now, Ben is a founding member of the band Big Swing Face. Besides playing gigs with the band, he performs at various private parties, clubs, and concerts as a solo artist. Plus, he arranges and composes music, teaches music in local schools at all levels including college. His overall goal is to simply share his music and talents with others, whether it be through performing, writing, or teaching.
Today’s track, “Hit that Jive, Jack”, features a great female vocalist whose credit I cannot find. The term “jive” dates back to the jazz era on the 1940s and is one of the terms like “muggles” or “gage” that the “vipers” of the era used as code for “marihuana-with-an-’h'”. Enjoy this modern tribute to classic reefer jazz from Big Swing Face.
