The Roots Monday Toker Tune of the Day comes from Cliff Roth and the J.J. Davies band. Originally from the soundtrack of Cliff’s 2003 underground stoner cult movie “The Stoned Channel”, “Hello, My Old Friend (Marijuana)” is a song of yearning and the return of a lost love that is sure to bring a tear to your eye….unless your eyes are already teary from that last huge bong rip you just took.
The songs from “The Stoned Channel” span musical styles, from reggae “Marijuana Party Time”, to the pop/middle-of-the-road spoof, “Those Were The Bongs”, to the folk-rock “Marijuana French Toast”. There’s Indian sitar and New Age too.
Jeffrey J. Davis composed and produced the original songs on The Stoned Channel, collaborating with lyricist and executive producer Cliff Roth.
