This has been a very high-profile story “down under” in Australia. This young woman, Schapelle Corby, appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. While traveling through an Indonesian airport on her way to surf in Bali, she was nabbed with 4.1kg of marijuana in her body-board bag. Corby has no prior record, has never been known to have been involved with marijuana or other drugs, and insists there was nothing in her body-board bag when she left Australia. She hardly fits the profile of a high-stakes marijuana smuggler, and her defense theorizes that she was the victim of a ring of airport baggage handlers who surreptitiously slip their packages into baggage in Australia, then it is retrieved by airport baggage handlers in Indonesia, who apparently missed Corby’s delivery. Indonesia is renowned for its incredibly harsh drug laws and it looks like she’ll be spending the rest of her young adult years in prison:

INDONESIA’S Supreme Court has rejected Schapelle Corby’s final appeal against her 20-year sentence for drug trafficking.It was her last legal avenue to have her sentence overturned.The only other avenue is a plea for clemency to Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, which requires an admission of guilt.
However, Mr Yudhoyono has previously said he opposes granting pardons for drugs crimes.
Corby’s lawyers also argued the sentence was too harsh compared with punishments handed down for similar offences elsewhere in Indonesia.
Having read a number of articles regarding this case, she has been denied justice, however unfortunately a large number of responses i have read from Australians suggest they feel she is guilty regardless of evidence. Until the Australian populous manage to look beyond their profit incentivised media, Shapelle will remain where she is. If you are Australian and your daughter, son, sister, brother, of parent becomes subjected to this injustice, you only have yourselves to blame.
A complete travesty. I personally believe she’s innocent – BUT THAT’S NOT REALLY THE POINT HERE! A girl is in prison for twenty years, at first fighting for her very life over a bag of marijuana! I went to a store in the San Fernando Valley last week and bought a half ounce medical marijuana for chronic pain – but also for pleasure – and a girl from a civilized first world country is in prison for twenty years for “possession” of the same substance. She went there for a vacation for christ’s sake.
GO TO HAWAII, PEOPLE. STAY THE HELL OUT OF THESE THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES WITH LAWS FROM THE MIDDLE AGES. First world countries like Australia and New Zealand should treat Bali like the US has treated fucking Cuba for the last half century. Officially. I own a gift store and when I learned about the Corby case I canceled all of my accounts with companies that deal with merchandise from Bali. It kind of hurt to do that, they make a lot of cool stuff there, but I’ll find replacements from elsewhere – or me and my customers will do without. It’s time for civilized countries to stop tolerating bullshit little banana republics that like to flex their puny little muscles like a strutting rooster. There is ample proof that her relatives were into the drug scene, maybe not as heavily as people thought. None the less she does have close relatives who have been charged with possession of marijuana. Shit man, even this bitches best friend and sister have both publicly admitted to using marijuana at the Corby household.

If she was the victim of a crime as she says she was, her bag would weigh more when it was searched in Bali. The boogie board bag would weigh 4.2kg more with the marijuana present.

No attempt was made to search or weigh Corby’s other luggage, even after she demanded it, though again, there was no obligation upon Indonesian police to do so. Her belongings were searched after she was taken into custody.

The Aussies have done a FULL investigation trying to link her family members to drugs and there is nothing!! This is crazy!! ITS FUCKING POT!! How could happen in the world today? Her sister, brother, and father are heavily involved in drugs. More than likely one of them filled her bag. More than likely she knew about it. Good lesson for all who travel. Lock your bags. Don’t trust your druggie relatives.
If the Bali government could sit down for a moment in the quiet with S. Corby and hoenstly look her in the eyes and believe she is guilty then they are not dealing in reality. The facts are clearly that S. Corby does not by any means fit this type of profile. Common sense takes our lifes on earth a long way and Bali needs to understand what the term common sense means.
