Dear Russell:
Thank you for contacting me about marijuana prohibition. It is good to hear from you.
As you may know, marijuana is classified as a schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act. It is in this category because it has a high potential for abuse and has no broadly accepted medical use.
Currently, no legislation exists in the Congress that would repeal our laws against illegal drug use.
I have very serious concerns about substance abuse in this country. Drug abuse is damaging the social fabric of the country by tearing apart our communities and families. I strongly support efforts to reduce abuse of illicit drugs through enforcement, education and addiction treatment. Eradicating drugs from our state will take all of us working together.
Again, thank you for contacting me.
Sincerely,
Kent Conrad
