Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts on our nation’s drug policies and legalizing the use of marijuana. It was good to hear from you.
Like many Americans, I am concerned about the high use of drugs, including marijuana, among our citizens, especially for young people. I believe we must continue to work to reduce drug use. One important aspect of our efforts is to send a consistent message to young people about the use of drugs and alcohol. Therefore, I do not support legalizing or decriminalizing currently illegal drugs, including marijuana.
I understand and share some of the concerns expressed about our nation’s drug policy, and its effects on civil liberties, privacy, limited budgets, and courts and prisons. These issues certainly should remain a part of the nation’s ongoing drug policy debate, and I always consider these views when the Senate addresses drug issues.
While supply reduction efforts will continue to play a prominent role in efforts to reduce drug use, I strongly support drug prevention and treatment efforts that target the demand for drugs, especially for young people.
Again, thank you for contacting me. If I can be of service in the future, please be in touch.

I have only two concerns to be discussed by Congress: l. Will Congress be eligible for free pot?
2. What is the economic picture for the taxpayer if not so? Is Pot cheaper than Jack Daniels. Taxpayers got a booze tab from the State Department for $300,000 last month. In our current economic state we must choose the more economical solution for our government personnel.
That was my comment in Oly Jillian. We’ve been lied to, told to lie to our children then they try it and find they’re not psycho killers afterwords and in the process loose all respect for parents and law enforcement.
and while we’re at it, what kind of message does it send to classify marijuana and heroin in the same schedule?
..maybe that when kids see friends smoke a joint without harm it must mean that it’s equally safe to shoot up h? Supporters of the prohibition harm our country!
Is their beloved message worth more than the 6,000 people who died due to the prohibition last year?
..I guess they believe it is.
Washington legal stuff seems good, I got let off court for medical reasons, but the politics are stupid. She can’t be expected to be re-elected. If you try to prevent and reduce demand by preaching falsehoods, that will only increase demand when they find out the truth! It’s all a complete failure, the current trend of thinking.
